College Football Playoff Pressured to Change Dates: The College Football Playoff is under pressure on two fronts to adjust dates for its semifinals and championship games. ESPN execs are lobbying CFP officials to move next season's semis off New Year's Eve where it competes with countdown shows. The NFL is considering expanded playoffs with one new game on Monday night competing with the CFP championship. CFP executive director Bill Hancock says the games won't move: “We picked Monday night because it was open and it was the best night for our game. We announced that in June 2012. We established that our game was going to be on Monday night for 12 years."
I'd rather see the College Football Playoff final on a Wednesday or Thursday night. Having it on Monday, a day after an NFL playoff weekend, was too short a time to enjoy the anticipation and wallow pre-game media hype.

It's bizarre to me that the countdown shows would be the conflict as opposed to the fact that it is New Year's Eve. People (myself included) are used to doing things on New Year's Eve. I, for one, would appreciate not having to talk my wife into having football on next NYE when Ohio State is in the playoff again.

Although there's something horribly wrong yet wonderfully perverse about the idea of Nick Saban getting bumped from a time slot by the likes of Kathy Griffin, in general, the fargin' countdown shows can go lower their loins into a Slurpee.
