Brilliant goal by Messi, but as with the rest of the proceedings, it felt like a match script for the benefit of VIPB's* was being followed.

Potential crazy tie-breaker alert:

On Wednesday, if Argentina beats Nigeria 1-0 (not unheard of because Argentina can secure 1st place with just a draw), and Iran beats Bosnia & Herzegovina 1-0 (again, not unusual as both teams have a hard time scoring goals), then Nigeria and Iran end up in a perfect tie in the standings: same points, same goal differential, same goals scored, and drew in their match against each other.

They will have to draw lots to determine who goes on to the round of 16.

Has that ever happened before in the World Cup?

"Hey, let's come up with a tiebreaker even worse than penalty kicks!"

The Iranian defender crumpling is a little heartbreaking.

I noticed that too. I entered the match wanting Argentina to win and left it crestfallen that Iran's epic performance was not rewarded. So close!
