The World Cup is going to be a big deal here. What contests would you like to see on SportsFilter?

How about the pick 'em where we go up against each other and Sepp Blatter's FIFA Rankings?

I liked that style we tried last WC (or the one before that?) where you assign points to each team (from 1 to 32), based on how how much confidence you have in them winning games.

The scoring system is (points assigned) * (result from game), where "result from game" is 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss.

I think it was called "confidence tournament" or something like that. (Stupid middle-aged brain!)

It allows for a wider spread of predictions, and it doesn't require an update every day/week.

Yes, I think a confidence pool (as proposed by grum) plus a fantasy game (FIFA runs one similar to the FPL game) would be great. Alex (qbert72) and/or DrJohnEvans used to host simple software for setting up confidence pools, but it has been down last couple times I tried to set something up.

Confidence pool would be excellent.

I'd love to see something like the Campfire we had in 2006. Maybe a Google Hangout?

That's the one - a confidence pool, not a pick 'em. I don't know what I'm doing.

No need to apologize -- I just figured that a pick 'em is what inbred Derby fans called confidence pools down under.

Where I'm coming from, a confidence pool is the underwater treadmill at the rehab facility.

*To the tune of Kenny Rogers' "Coward of the County"*:

I promised me gran that I'd always be a Ram
and always fight the Forest when I can
Now please don't think I'm weak
cos I was born to shag your sheep
I hope you're old enough to understand
sometimes you gotta fight when you're a Ram

Everyone considers them the best, that's Derby County

I sure do hope Rams go up. Although choosing between McClaren and 'Arry is like choosing between a colonoscopy and a root canal.

Steve's a new man, apparently.

He started with us before he went to Man U, and Jose reckons more English coaches should work in Europe.

I vote for both confidence pool and fantasy league.
