SportsFilter: The Tuesday Huddle:
A place to discuss the sports stories that aren't making news, share links that aren't quite front-page material, and diagram plays on your hand. Remember to count to five Mississippi before commenting in anger.
Sailing gets a better class of story comments it seems. Even the "your sport is boring" guy has proper punctuation.

As a fan of open source software, enemy of egotistical pricks and someone who grew up right next to Newport, RI, I'm basically a lab-grown Ellison terminator.

You ought to see that egotistical prick's new 56,000 square foot house on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. It is absolutely fucking obscene.

I'd pay to watch him and Scott Boras jump in a jello wrestling pit and go at it, then have Lance Armstrong toss in a couple of good sized electric eels.
I'm also progressively disappointed with how the onetime pride of NZ, Russell Coutts, has shown that he is more than willing to sign on as a syndicate's hired gun, regardless of how unctuous a yachting campaign may be offering employment. He's chasing slimy money now.

If Ellison really thought that the masses were going to flock to watch a bunch of billionaires race their fucking yachts around, he truly is delusional.

They were fishing them off the piers in Newport when Ted Turner raced. People even turned out to see Dennis Conner and his stupid permanently zinc oxide nose.
Yes, I am still bitter about the Cup being gone, why do you ask?

Ellison does whatever to whomever wherever he wants.
Be careful what you post about the guy, he's got the knowledge and means to go Heisenberg on you.

I think baseball needs to improve its drug testing.

From the Eskander Betstar site, The following definition:
Boat race: A race with a number of non-triers, which is said to be fixed for one horse to win.
Sounds like America's Cup racing might just be filling the definition quite nicely. Perhaps the 12-meter yachts ought to be brought back. They were beautiful craft, and sailing them required teamwork, solid judgment of wind and current, and a good-sized element of luck. True enough, watching a 12-meter race was not a thrill-a-minute event, but for those who appreciate the sport there was nothing better. Trying to tailor the sport to attract TV ratings reveals nothing but a desire to turn the sport into money. Such things as yacht racing satisfy their own fans, and those who do not appreciate them need not watch. I grew up within sight and sound of salt water, and some of my happier moments were spent at sea. I'll watch an America's Cup race because I like sailing as an event, but turning it into a technology race doesn't satisfy my sense of the aesthetics of the thing.

The top rated comment about this being a Barry Bonds biopic is both racist as all hell and funny as all hell. I'm conflicted.
