Looking grim for the NHL - hope the owners realize that they're likely to kill the league with this one

Somehow I doubt the league would die any more than Hostess shutting down will kill Twinkies and Ho Hos. Too much money to be left on the table for that, even if there's a new name on the letterhead.

See how I got Twinkies into the mix?

The Blue Jays continue to add to their line-up, signing Melky Cabrera to a two-year $16MM deal.

Hockey won't die for sure (college hockey and international hockey should step in to fill the gap) but the NHL is really misunderstanding the world if they think people aren't going to give their time and money to other entertainments rather than return to the NHL.

This makes me a little mad as it now (retroactively) implies that the Jays could have signed Barry Bonds when he was available after 2007. I always assumed it was because they (as a team) decided they didn't want the steroid stink on them, but this pretty much removes that from the equation.

Collusion!

Not sure if this should go under mixed marital arts or motorsports, but the gripping chrome-o-zone permadrama "American Chopper" has mercifully been put out to pasture by Discovery Channel.

Paul Teutul Sr. is now free to pursue a promising career as the side view human likeness of the Minnesota Vikings logo.

Yep. The player's union really dropped the ball on that one, with Barry; it seemed like an open-and-shut case, especially when he basically said he'd work for league minimum.
