Alexander Vinokourov, in his final professional race, makes a savvy late pass to take the gold medal in the olympic road race. Weird race, with the main pack seemingly unaware the whole race they were so far back of the breakaway and guys like Cavendish were nowhere to be found at the end.

I get nervous when there's parachute jumping associated with major sporting events. Reminds me of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.

Just tuned into the USA v Colombia women's football match. Initially thought the US team was representing the federal women's penitentiary system. Don't they know horizontal stripes are supposed to make you look fat?

With a rotation of Weaver, Wilson, Haren, and now Greinke, the Angels should make things interesting in the AL West.
Especially if Haren can start pitching as well as he has in the past.

To me, it felt like the teams in the peloton without riders in the break simply weren't prepared to help the British team pull it together for a bunch sprint. The rough rule is that you can pull back a minute over that distance if there's a concerted attempt to keep the pace up, but the breakaway had a lot of good time-triallers putting in shifts.
It all broke apart at the front when Cancellara got done in by a Richmond Park corner. Nasty crash, might affect him for (or put him out of) the time trial, where he was one of the favourites.

Are NBC really tape-delaying the 400m IM swimming final?
I'm on NBC itself which claims to be showing swimming, but through the 2.30 time for Lochte-Phelps they showed tape-delayed heats and then switched to volleyball.
This is weird.
*Edit
Checking local listings on NBC.com it suggests they were showing swimming until 2.30, which is when the 400m IM started, at which point they switch to rowing and then volleyball.
There's an "Olympic Primetime" on at 8pm, so it appears the very earliest you can see Lochte-Phelps part I for this Olympics is on a five and a half hour delay.
I live in a household of swimmers and they're ready to flat out murder someone. I know the result and I'm not sure if I'm going to be tortured until I tell or shot to ensure my silence.

Yep. And presumably will do so with all the other swimming finals, because they haven't got the morning/evening switcheroo that they finagled out of Beijing last time to get them in US prime time. I imagine the gymnastics will be "embargoed" and delayed as well.
I wondered whether the changing of the guard at NBC would put an end to this idiocy. Apparently not.

NBC is really doing a terrible job so far. This is ridiculous.

I was shocked when I first saw those unis.
Unsupervised fashion choices like that obviously can't be allowed in the future.
Where's the Devil in Prada when you really need her?
But I have to say, you'll never see a more vibrant and fit bunch of Hamburglars anywhere.

Here they are, finally about to show it, seven hours later.
The whole thing, with a lead in and wrap up, would have taken them about 15 minutes to show, which wouldn't have even meant missing an entire set of the volleyball.
Just really, really poor.

Just watched the replay of the Men's Team archery final. Went down to the final arrow. Great stuff.
Luckily it's not an endurance sport because I think the Italian guys might have lost a foot race to the Septics, unless it was a race to a taverna for a plate of pasta and a chianti.

Is there anyone who was wanting to watch that race that doesn't know the result already?
Here in Canada, it's a ridiculous set of choices.
TSN, SportsNet, CTV, and NBC all had something different and live this morning/afternoon.
Interestingly, I could only watch the American tennis players on the Canadian channel.

That was a nasty gash on his elbow and I think he's having xrays on the collarbone he broke earlier this year.

Yeah, I was surprised he got up from that and was definitely favoring his right collarbone. Really tough to watch for a guy who was potentially a two event medalist.
