Yr mom.
I just heard that the Hurricanes have sold the most ever season tickets in their history here in NC. I think people are kinda excited about getting Jordan Staal and Alex Semin.

My American friends...
These opening ceremonies are very entertaining (so far). Not the choreographic masterpiece of Beijing, but FAR more entertaining with music, video, and dance. Also, it's impressive that everyone in the stands seems to be holding small LED devices that act as part of the overall display.
I definitely recommend watching them when NBC decides you are allowed to see them.

The NBC soccer announcers are pretty bad. Listening to them talk is embarrassing (for American soccer fans).

I'll be watching, grum, but given what I've seen about the history of British music going on, I'm going to be massively disappointed if Peter and the Test Tube Babies don't come out and perform "Up Yer Bum".

Thanks. I turned the damn TV on at 4pm when Twitter lit up with descriptions only to discover . . . NBC was who we thought they were.

Now they finally decided to show me the opening ceremony I just saw the Queen jump out of a helicopter with James Bond.
I shouldn't have eaten that yoghurt.

Billions watch the Olympics opener while the Red Sox' flirtation with .500 goes virtually unnoticed. That's just wrong.

It's hard to take the 30th Olympiad too seriously when their TV block is consistently identified by their Roman numerals. Creates the wrong impression about what kind of program is on.

It was weird watching the opening with him and LaFlamme doing the commentary. There was that moment, and when Mitt Romney appeared on the screen.
They squared off about Mitt Romney's statements about the preparedness of these Olympics. LaFlamme mentioned how everyone was calling it an international "gaffe", while Williams refuted her and said that Romney was right in saying what he did. LaFlamme retaliated by pointing out how Romney was being mocked by the British for his comments, while then Williams came back about how the British press routinely mock other nations (like Canada) for their Olympics, and maybe they deserved a taste of their own medicine.
Cue 5 seconds of dead air.

Hey, anything to get someone's attention to watch the program, right?
If I saw that in my TV Guide, I'd want to watch it!

Also, one reason to watch the horse jumping competition is that you'll get a chance to see a record being set, as Canadian icon Ian Millar will be participating in his TENTH Olympic games. He's been to every single one since 1972, except for the boycott in 1980.
No other athlete has competed in that many Olympic games in modern history.

Hey, I watched both at the same time, at my local bar. One TV with sound on the game, one TV without sound on the opening ceremonies (I might have liked it better if it had had sound, but I kind of doubt it...thinking back to Albertville '92, all I can say is that the Brits just out-Frenched the French), and the fireworks for my town's annual ag fair visible out the window. It was kinda cool. "Oh hey giant Voldemort, jeez another home run, wow nice star shell", etc.

You probably would have liked the "history of British music/modern day Britain" portion. It had something for everyone.

There's some sort of event going on in London.
No idea what it is.
