Is it still fun to play baseball in Boston, Big Papi? "Not really. Too much shit, man. Too much shit. It's becoming to be the shit hole that it used to be. Playing here used to be so much fun. Now, every day it's something new not related with baseball."

Gotta love how some lowlife uses the comment section (in rcade's above link) to turn a gripe by a player into a racist rant. One in every crowd, I guess.

Slightly off the subject, but is it true that the Youkalis trade yesterday now means that Ortiz is the last remaining member of the '04 team still with the Red Sox? It does seem that the team was dismantled pretty fast (even though it was 8 years ago).

County pulls $30 million in 49ers stadium funding - glad to see some government--actually my county government--stand up to a sports franchise and say teachers are more important than a new stadium. Apparently lawsuits coming but the Niners also said if necessary they'll swallow the $30M. Good on them.

German soccer chant in Gdansk: "Without Angie, you wouldn't be here."

Greek counter-chant: "We'll never pay you back."

Sadly, 'tis true. But then few of the members of that team are still playing in MLB. Youkilis and Ortiz are 2, and Johnny Damon and Orlando Cabrera are still playing as well. Among the '04 pitching staff, Bronson Arroyo and Derek Lowe are still active, and all of the others who had a principal role are out of baseball as players. The '04 team had few young players, so to have the team so thoroughly broken up after 8 years is no surprise.

Also, Youklis never actually played in the '04 series, but he was on the roster. Papi is the lone remaining man who was on the field.

Orlando Cabrera

Did he come back? Last I knew he retired.

Awesome. For both sets of fans.

Already having a bad month, Marlon Byrd has been suspended for a positive PED test, prompting this advice.

That is correct. I looked at a wrong reference that had him as a free agent. He announced his retirement this past January.

Much appreciated, Howard. It's indeed no surprise that most teams' rosters wouldn't resemble what they were 8 years ago, but it seems like today's Red Sox doesn't even have most of who it had even when they won it all back in 2007.

And that includes fans.
