It's a little disheartening that MrFrisby still leads, even though he forgot to submit picks for the Conf. Finals.

For the Finals, as with previous years, I need you to submit a winner, number of games, and the bonus Conn Smythe winner. You still get the 2 and 1 points for the correct winner and games, but you'll also get an extra 3 points for the correct CS winner. This is still anyone's game, so get those picks in...

Frisby, you couldn't wait until the end to point that out? A few of us thought we had a slight chance for a short time. Anyhoo-

Devils in 6 (with Henrique scoring the cup clenching goal in the 2nd OT a la Jason Arnott in 2000 and, well, Adam Henrique in 2012). Despite Henrique's heroics, Quick wins the Conn Smythe a la JS Guigere in 2003. Then all the Kings "fans" who came out of the woodwork in the past two weeks can put their Gretzky jerseys back in mothballs for another 20 years.

L.A. KINGS! in 6.
Jonathan Quick for the Conn Smythe.

So, the most I can get is six points? That's not enough to catch Fritsy. The only person that can catch Fritsy is kokaku, and even then, it's a tie at best. Is there any way you can bump up the points so that even the 14ers can, in theory, catch Fritsy?

In the first 2 rounds, I refused to see Kings and Devils advancing. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me (and I might add a fair portion of the SpoFi hockey intelligentsia) 3 times, shame on MeatSaber for getting us all into this thing. I did pick the Kings over Coyotes, but only because I couldn't see either of them winning, so I took the least likely to lose. Anyway, now we get to the finals with 2 teams that not too many experts figured would get here, and it's time to pick one.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more:

Kings in 7. This pick is made in the full knowledge that NJ's forecheck can give you fits, but also in the hope that LA's defense will be strong enough to move the puck quickly and get clean breakouts. If this happens, I believe that LA's offense, so little of it that there is, will be able to get pucks past the ageless Monsieur Brodeur.

The Conn Smythe trophy seems to have become the property of the winning goaltender over the past few years. True, there have been exceptions, but nobody on either team has consistently shown the leadership and scoring touch necessary to take the trophy. Thus it is Jonathan be nimble, Jonathan will be Quick, and Jonathan will use the Conn Smythe for a candlestick.

Can I point out again how I dominated the confidence pool for the 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs?

Would that be enough for people to stop laughing at my results in this pool?

No?

Sigh.

Congratulations, Martin Brodeur, you're sure to win the SC and CS after I submit my picks:

I've read a lot online from Devils fans that they are so happy just to see New Jersey in the Finals while defeating their two most hated division rivals on the way. I'm not one of them, I'm getting greedy:

New Jersey in 6
Kovalchuk for the CS

posted by MrFrisby at 08:52 PM on May 29, 2012

Kings in 6, Quick with the CS.

And NoMich, I'm not going to change the points, just because that would diminish everything MrFrisby and kokaku have done to this point. I've never been a fan of the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality, and if we want a tighter race next year, we damned well better make better picks next year...

Alright, that's cool. But if you have read the book of Revelation in the Bible, you would know what's about to happen to the universe when Fritsy wins this thing. *shudder*

So everybody's picking Quick for the Connie..I want to be different. Change my Conn Smythe pick to Parise, because a tie for second is even more shameful than a tie for first. It's like kissing your sister's boyfriend. And he hasn't shaved for a few days. And he smokes. And had liverwurst for lunch.
