The Big 12 and SEC have agreed to their own version of the Rose Bowl, pitting the two conference champions against each other for five years starting 2014. No word yet on whether the Sugar Bowl will get the game.

Of course, the bowl is contingent on neither the SEC nor Big 12 champions being in the top four teams and therefore being selected for the don't-call-it-a-playoff, which has not yet happened in the BCS era.

This is one of the most exciting games that will never happen in college football history.

I'm just surprised they're announcing this ahead of adoption of the new playoff system. Not like they need/can make use of any news buzz in early May.

An interesting same day counterpoint to the Rose Bowl, if the Pac-12/Big 10 do something similar.

Best. Bobblehead. Ever.

Justin Verlander has a no-hitter through seven at home against the Pirates.

Josh Harrison hit a one-out single in the ninth to bust up the no hitter.

You jinxed him, dammit.

It's apparent that I can't know about a Tigers no-hitter until after the fact, seeing as I've never seen one actually happen, but I've been dozens of spoiled no-nos...

I don't think the jinx rule should apply to people who tell others so they have a chance to watch it happen, as long as they are not in earshot of the pitcher. But I'm open to reconsideration to avoid angering the baseball gods.

Sorry to see that Verlander came so close to getting a third no hitter but no cigar.

Nothing against the ever stellar Verlander, but I'm thinking that Calvin Schiraldi might be able to no hit this year's Pirates lineup.

You would think that, you damn dirty jinxer.

Good try, rcade...but I'm of the mind that a person on the moon could say "looks like JV is pitching a no-hitter" and jinx it. I was informed by a friend, though, who texted me in the middle of the 8th and said only that I should turn the game on. I knew why, but he was careful not to come right out and say it...

What if I design a robot that can detect potential perfect games and no hitters in progress and share the news without human intervention? Everybody loves robots.

I think Verlander has given up a grand total of three hits in his last two starts.

Wow. I came in here to make it more clear that I am only kidding about the jinx, and it turns out that rcade stepped up his game to incorporate annihilation of the human race. This weekend just keeps getting weirder.

...just like kids like clowns, right?

If your kid doesn't love clowns, get a new kid.

I can't keep the bit going. Clowns are fucking terrifying.
