MLB Fires Arbitrator Who Unpunished Braun: Major League Baseball management has fired Shyam Das, the arbitrator who overturned Ryan Braun's drug suspension in February. Das served in the job for 13 years and could have been removed at any time with written notice by either the league or the player's association. "He served the parties with professionalism and distinction," union head Michael Weiner said.

I find it interesting that he's also the NFL's arbitrator (since 2004). Nice little career niche to carve out for oneself.

Regarding the fates of previous MLB arbitrators in the AP story currently carried by ESPN:

Seitz was fired after he ruled against owners in the Andy Messersmith-Dave McNally reserve clause case that led to free agency. Roberts was fired after deciding management colluded against free agents between the 1985 and 1986 seasons.

It is apparent that angering ownership is not an arbitration career enhancement.

When I saw the distinguished Mr. Sad's name mentioned under these circumstances, my first reaction was to seek anagrams.

Of which there are many, including Shams Day and Had My Ass.

(I know those sound like Derby entries, but I was thinking topically).

So you guys are suggesting these decisions aren't . . . arbitrary?

I'll see myself out.

I would have preferred Mr. Weiner call MLB out on this dick move.

Having been fired, Shyam Das must have a sad, shy ma.

Damn you, Beaverboard, why do you start these things?

Because it's my duty to keep us both out of trouble and as debt free as possible.

This is safe and inexpensive.

Unless you drag Art Schlichter into it. (Scratch Her Lit)
