Cuban Soccer Player Defects to U.S.: Yosmel de Armas, a Cuban national soccer player who disappeared while the team was in Nashville to play an Olympic qualifying match in March, has defected and will seek asylum in the U.S., his attorney said. Seven Cuban soccer players defected in 2008 after a qualifier. Three more and they can field a team.
I'm a little surprised that these Cuban teams are allowed by their government to travel internationally given how often that seems to lead to players defecting.
