I hope the Stanford kicker got a good education because he will not be able to fall back on a kicking career.

The true Simpson's fans out there will know what I am about to say;

Ned Flanders: ... communications? Oh, dear Lord!

Anton Lubchenko: I know! Is phony major.

Incredible day of football yesterday. Between the Outback Bowl, Rose Bowl, and Fiesta Bowl, it was a thoroughly entertaining 12 hour stretch.

I'm still fist pumping over that Michigan State victory yesterday. That first half was pretty bad for them. Georgia looked so much better than State, so for State to come back and actually win the game was pretty amazing.

I hope he has many good counseling sessions ahead of him. Poor guy really has a lot to work through.

Yeah, it's kind of a punny screen name. I'm from Northern Michigan and I grew up on the Michigan State side of the great divide.

Some inside information on how selection decisions are made in English football.

It's like Rovers don't even want to stay up.

Wait a minute, you mean all this time I've been pronouncing it like "No Mitch" when it should be more like "No' Mish"? My whole world just came tumbling down around me.

I always thought it meant that there was no Michigan to be found in NoCaro.

Games-played clauses in transfers aren't uncommon (along with sell-on clauses that give the original selling club a piece of any subsequent sale) and I've heard of managers leaving players out of the squad towards the end of the season when mid-table mediocrity is assured, but it's rare to see them invoked in January. It's not like American big league sport, where a losing franchise will trade talent for prospects and wait for the draft, though you may be seeing the emergence of "tactical relegation", where a chairman will take a year or two in the Championship to cut the wage bill and stay in business with the aid of parachute payments. (You'll lose some glory-hunting fans, but a winning Championship season is often better entertainment than a year of getting tonked in the Premier League.)

It's perhaps part of the transition from the era of the local multi-millionaire chairman -- Blackburn's Jack Walker as the obvious example -- to that of the global billionaire.

Yeah, but that's why I give alms to those poor U of M fans.

Exactly, especially by a team at the foot of the table. The ire of Rovers fans should be directed at Venkys rather than the unfortunate Steve Kean. He can't even field his best XI, and if I was him, I would have quit as soon as it became obvious that his selections are being compromised.
