A classic battle between, err, red and blue.

WTF?! Who won the game?
And I think it was the Kyoto Giants (blue) v. the University of Phoenix online (red). That was one helluva rivalry back in the mid to late '80s, as you can very well see.
I wish that the referee that called the holding on the defense would work in the NFL. I really enjoyed his work.

It looks like it was the Kohshien Bowl of 1984. Kohshien is the stadium in Osaka where the annual Japan High School Baseball Tournament is played. To have played in the tournament is more significant to a Japanese HS player than playing in the post-season is to a Major Leaguer. Obviously, the stadium is used for more than baseball; rugby and soccer being other sports played there. The football teams involved were the Nihon Daigaku (Japan University) "Phoenix", in red, against Kwansei Gakuin (lit. Western Japan College), not to be confused with Kansai Daigaku. The game finished as a tie, no overtime being played at that time in Japan.

No OT? I guess the big line-up at the end was a handshake line of some sort? I thought it was for a coin flip.
Thanks for the info though. Even if you just made it up, I'm running with this story.

I'm dying to know where your first link was supposed to go to. Sadly, it just loops back here.

Also:
Deutsch, wearing No. 33, took park in the pregame warmup but was scratched when Hackett made it to the Xcel Energy Center just before game time.

Boo! Just once, I'd love to see the emergency backup get just one minute of ice time (at the end of the game, maybe) just so he can say he played in the NHL. The NHL needs a Moonlight Graham.

Yes, I know, grum. :-( Oh, and Bobby Orr gets a mention in the bit too.

I sent the link to rcade to fix, but if you go to fan590.com and play the Grapeline for November 23, 2011, that's it.
