Steve Williams explains why Adam Scott's victory at Bridgestone Invitational was best of his career: Asked what the celebration was all about, the 47-year-old New Zealander said: 'It was my aim to shove it right up that black a**ehole.'

Typical, win the World Cup and all the Kiwis think they can get away with saying anything. New Zealand is a benighted shithole. Bite me, Auckland.

/Seriously, he thought no-one in the room would report it?

Sounds like he has issues with Tiger.

What the hell is wrong with this guy? Is there not a code among caddies to observe a sense of decorum? It was bad enough that he trashed Tiger Woods publicly after they parted ways, but to then overshadow Adam Scott's Bridgestone win by giving interviews right at the 18th green and to make this racist comment, it's like he has no idea who won all those matches.

I know caddies have value to their golfers, but this guy had the good fortune to become a multimillionaire on Tiger's bag. Caddies used to share motel rooms. Williams' astounding fortune should have bought Tiger the benefit of a little discretion.

Looks like Scott's going to damage his own reputation to sticking with Williams. Sad.

John Terry is alleged to have made racist remarks to/at/about Anton Ferdinand; the FA immediately initiate an inquiry. A high-profile caddie definitely makes a racist remark and golf's governing bodies do... nothing. Shame on golf.

As for Scott, he's an idiot. "All that racist stuff Stevie was saying? Aww look mate, it was just taken out of context." Undoubtedly, but would you mind telling us in exactly what context it would be OK to say what he said? I can't think of one.

Call Tiger an arsehole all you like, Stevie - I'll go a long way down that road with you; he is an absolute arsehole of the highest order - but the inclusion of the word "black" turns the whole thing around and reminds everyone that so are you. What a typically weaseling effort to get away from the furore that is (and should be) engulfing him too; that room with 200 people in it - players, caddies, officials and PRESS - of course that's a private setting. What a fucking idiot to not only fail to see that it isn't, or that even if it were, his comment is still a racist one, no matter where it was made, making him a racist.

It shouldn't be up to Scott whether or not he keeps his job; he should be banned by golf's governing bodies.

Agreed. The guy is a loose cannon who's act was tolerated when he was walking the course with the great Tiger Woods. Since that whole house of cards collapsed it's now obvious he's as big a jackass with almost as many issues as Woods has. The big difference is, Williams is totally unnecessary to the sport.

I'm having a hard time recalling a person with less relevant talent making as much money and being so ungrateful. Vanna White made a shitload of money for doing something a trained chimp could have done, but at least she seems grateful.

His generic apology was a foregone conclusion. But how does he explain that he is the biggest asshole out there for making the racist comment in the first place.

Can't see him staying with Scott - there will be pressure on Scott to get rid of him.

Don't know what options Williams will have after this. He may need to get away for a bit.

The flights from Christchurch to McMurdo have started back up for the summer.

He is succeeding in getting sympathy for Woods, or at least making Woods look smart and measured for firing him. I didn't think that possible.

*L* Exactly. Someone said it in a previous thread about this mouthpiece - you know you're doing it wrong when you're making Woods look like he 's got the moral high ground.

Yes, but at least it's not England, home of the most racist people in the world. Pot, kettle, much pom-boy?

Williams does seem to have lost his sense of... everything, really.

I think you might have the wrong person. And have read that wrong. And well, your sarcasm detector, it may be set for the other side of the equator. Also, are the English really the most racist people on Earth? Feels like a sport. Let's get a tournament going!

The English? I think the French could give them a run for their money.

Unless, of course, rogerd was internalising a really complicated situation in his head.

New Zealand. Known to people around the world as "the place they filmed Lord of the Rings" and to the people who live there as "the place they filmed Lord of the Rings."

For racist banter, my money is on England.

In an effort to spread the love all around:

If you were to ask Eisenhower and Patton about Montgomery and DeGaulle in early 1944, after hearing the responses, you'd want to see that the British and French got together and found their way to group counseling sessions ASAP.

As an Irishman ("No dogs, no Irish") born in South Africa (a country that felt the need in 1975 to issue me with a piece of paper at birth declaring that I had been "classified as a white person") I'm staying out of the "which is the most racist nation on earth?" discussion.

Greg Norman thinks Williams is not a racist, but then, he also reckons he's never seen any racism in golf. Hell of a player for a blind man.

Maybe he was just describing the work he had to do as Tiger's caddy?

"I was so happy with the win that I became aroused and wished I could have sex with Tiger again"

Nope. Even in that context it's racist... And creepy.
