Well we know its not Romo or Eli.

Have to say I am not a big CFL fan. has he been a great QB for a while or just survive long enough to set the records he has. Did he pass on the NFL or was it never an option?

The article mentions a couple tryouts with the NFL that never really went anywhere. The Steelers came closest in the days when they featured the comedy stylings of Tommy Maddox and Kordell Stewart. They said if Charlie Batch left in FA they'd pick him up, but then Batch re-signed and that was that.

He came out of school at a time when being a "small" Quarterback meant being ignored - He's an inch taller than Drew Brees.

I'd say that Calvillo is the 3rd best quarterback in CFL history, behind Doug Flutie and Warren Moon.

Calvillo has been consistently great for a LONGER time, but his peaks are not as high as Flutie or Moon.

As we've seen with Jeff Garcia and Warren Moon, top CFL quarterbacks can make it in the NFL.
