Rays Rout Rangers in Playoff Opener: The Tampa Bay Rays thumped the Texas Rangers 9-0 in the first game of their best-of-five American League Divisional Series Friday. Rookie Mike Moore, starting just the second game of his Major League career, held the Rangers to two hits and no runs. Catcher Kelly Shoppach hit three- and two-run homers. The highlight for the Rangers was the fan who caught Shoppach's 410-foot home run and threw it back so quickly it almost beat him to second base.
Five innings into that game I started to feel the pain of Boston's absence from the playoffs. Don't know what to think of this series now. The Rangers turned that rookie with the creepy smile into Cliff Lee.

Not bad -- watches it into the mitt, plants himself and makes a strong throw back to second.
I predict the Red Sox will sign this guy for 8 years, $96M.

I thought you were talking about Shoppach, and thought they didn't like him the first time they had him.

Brutal. Just brutal. Can't say I expected the Rangers to get owned that hard on both sides of the game.
