Blown Call on Missed PAT Costs Toledo: Big East officials have acknowledged that they wrongly counted a PAT that gave Syracuse a 30-27 lead near the end of their game against Toledo Saturday (video). Toledo sent the game into overtime with a tying field goal, then lost 33-30. "We have concluded that the ruling on the field that the kick passed between the uprights was incorrect, and that the replay official made an error in failing to reverse that ruling," said director of officials Terry McAuley. "In reviewing the video, we have determined that the angle from behind the kicking team shows conclusively that the ball passes outside the right upright."

Damn, Syracuse football gets a lot of breaks.

That's just ridiculous.

I wonder since teams have to forfit entire seasons etc. as a matter of course for rule breaking. This is a case where the officials broke a rule, I would like to think unintentionally, remember the rule book says that an extra point has to go between the goal posts period. The officials went against the rule book. I would like to know if the Big East will correct the final score giving Toledo the win they deserve.

Really, Syracuse had 2 TOs, and was defending a 3 pt lead - yes, I know incorrectly, but it's the assumption both teams are working from. The whole ending plays differently if you know that a FG wins the game. We can't just assume that the last play of regulation would have ended the game. Maybe Syracuse gets the ball back with some time on the clock, or defends the field in a different way to protect their lead.

Clearly the call was blown, but to say Syracuse should forfeit the win is silly. The officials who worked the game should suspended or fired for gross incompetence.

I don't think there's a need to blame or punish all of them, but the guy in the box whose sole responsibility is to review the video tape when necessary should not have a job performing that task next Saturday.

So, the guys standing under the crossbar directly under the vertical posts shouldn't be disciplined at all? The kick didn't go over the vertical post, it clearly went in front of it and someone on that crew should have noticed it.

Presumably, the refs involved are graded regularly for performance and the Big East has a procedure in place for dumping the ones who suck at their job.

The correct score was 29 to 27 then 30 to 29 just how much time was left I really have to look that up however clock management was available to Toledo did Syracuse really have a chance in hell of scoreing. Either give Toledo the game or replay the end. (no chance I know) Due to the fact that the Big East was completely in charge of the screw up the Big east team should not have been given the win. At least throw out the results entirely. Winning in this manner has no value.

Sorry of course Toledo was kicking off not Syracuse. But the main point remains the same.

I may have screwed up the possession sequence, again My main point remains the same. I should have thought this out more thoroughly as I said still My main point of action on the part of the Big East remains the same.

I'm surprised, the fact that these were Big East Officials hasn't been brought up in the discussion. I think most controversy's such as this seem go against the visiting conference.
