Chicago Cubs first baseman Hee Seop Choi was taken off in an ambulance Saturday after colliding with Kerry Wood while chasing a pop fly. Choi was knocked unconcious when he fell and hit his head on the third base line.
The wind was coming in from right strong, blew the ball all the way over. These guys gotta learn to call eachother off. Yell "MINE" not "Got it."

heh. It wasn't that bad a crash, but the head bouncing is what did it. I've seen a fight where that same thing happened, and the guy got charged with manslaughter, when in fact it was just a bad accident. I hope he is OK. In other news that will bring most people great pleasure, Clemens got yanked from a masterpiece 3-hit shutout with 2 on, and it took Tigers reject Juan Acevedo all of one pitch to blow the shutout, the lead, and the game, and of course stick Clemens with 2 runs that he didn't deserve. (If you ask me, some of those balls on the Alou at bat were too close to let go, as well, and the announcers made sure to mention that this ump is a new guy) I'm seriously ready to start breaking things. Even if you hate the Yankees, that's a stupid way to end a great pitching duel. To be honest, I can't believe that Torre pulled him. Yes, he did seem to let 2 hitters get away, but he was still throwing hard, and definitely had the desire. Worse yet, Acevedo hasn't done a thing right all season. I can't believe he's still on this team, he is fucking terrible. We got an update on Choi, who is in serious condition... sort of vague, but hopefully it's nothing worse than a concussion.

Saw it on SportsCenter tonight. Scary looking. Loving Kerry Woods though!

You know, this is really Wood's fault. It's the pitcher's job to direct traffic in the infield on fly balls and Wood just messed up. At least Choi seems to be ok for now.

On a fly ball like that, the pitcher should run off the mound, into the dugout, have a seat and wait for the play to end. Pitchers are there to pitch, back up bases, and generally not make a nuisance out of themselves. I agree with the Bag Man, but I'm glad the kid will be fine.

I'm just sorry Harry's not around to butcher Hee Seop Choi's name.

The nastiest part of that scene is how his arms remained up in the air after he was knocked out. That's a sure sign of bad news (having seen it numerous times in hockey and football games). It's amazing how little give there is on the lines in baseball, but if he'd bounced his head off the grass part he would have been fine.
