The 2011 SpoFi NHL Playoofs Confidence Pool standings have been updated with scores through last night. mkn is still out front, but rumple and grum refuse to let him get too far ahead.

I'm losing ground every time Det/SJ or Van/Nash extends their series another game. They need to hurry up and get to a Van/TB final (and it goes 7 games).

He's still got a hard on. How else could he live up to his name?

I would almost like to see this happen. Be sort of like what happens when the coyote hits the glue trap. Trying to enforce WADA-style rules on people who are protected by employment law, yeah, maybe not gonna happen in quite the way they're used to...

Looking at the NBA, the pool action among crack prognosticators at the NOAA is firmly pointed toward a Heat-Thunder finals.

Over at the Cattle Futures Exchange, they're pulling hard for a Bulls-Mavericks matchup.

Many geologists remain despondent over the vaporization of their hopes for an all-Gasol Western Conference Final.

Not sure this is worthy of a FPP, but it's an anniversary today of one of my favourite footballing moments.

5/9/1987 England's Torquay United were losing 2-0 at halftime against Crewe Alexandra needing at least a draw to avoid relegation out of the Football League.

Torquay's Jim McNichol scored once in the second half to close the gap to 2-1, but McNichol's biggest moment was yet to come.... Chasing the ball down the sideline in the closing moments of the game McNichol was attacked and bitten by a police dog.

With no substitutes left McNichol was treated on the field until able to at least hobble about and in the five minutes of extra time the referee added for his injury Torquay scored a second goal, earning the draw they needed and consigning Lincoln to Conference football.

Youtube has incredibly poor quality video of the game. McNichol scores at about 5:26 and then you see the St John's ambulance folks sprinting about with a stretcher at 7 minutes.

LeBron was not impressed with this reporter's question.

Mariners designate Milton Bradley for assignment. When Bradley left Chicago he claimed he fans drove him out of town. Did they follow him to Seattle? He sounds like another candidate for anger management training.

LeBron subsequently misses the point.

Do the Florida Marlins have any fans? I've seen numerous shots of their stadium during home games, and they are in the process of building a 500 million dollar stadium, and they don't seem to have more than a few thousand fans at any given home game. I guess baseball just isn't that big a deal in Florida.

Uh...have you been around for the 5 or so Marlins fire sales that have occurred immediately after a winning season? It's hard to really get enthused about a different group of players every year, especially considering some of the stars that came out of Florida and played elsewhere once they became a star.

Imagine after the '92 Series (I see you're from TO) the Blue Jays traded Carter, Alomar, Devon White and a couple of starters from the rotation. That's what's happened a couple of times in Florida. The Expos dealt with it too, and look what happened to their fan base.

Toronto wasn't exactly packing them in during the last series against the Tigers.

They've suffered from being a perennially mediocre team in a hopeless division. If you look at the attendance numbers from last year, other than San Fran, you have perennial playoff contenders who attract fans.

The curious case is Tampa; a great young team who're in the midst of playoff contention, yet can't crack the top 20 in attendance...which lends credence to insomnyuk's theory that Floridians couldn't give a rats ass about baseball.
