Qatar has some plans in the works for some floating clouds to make the conditions more bearable for the 2018 World Cup.

Why not just build domed stadiums? Or, um, have the WC somewhere that makes sense?

Oh come on! Qatar is such a logical choice!

Now of course there is not much detail on exactly how these things are supposed to work, but $500k is cheap. Compared with, for example, the billion dollar Jerry World in Dallas, a half million is nothing. Even if the stadium already had a dome on it, the A/C system itself would cost way more than that.

Of course, whether or not this contraption can work is another issue altogether.

The hovercooler looks like it would be a juicy clay pigeon for a shoulder fired rocket.

I like the idea of freon-loaded vuvuzelas better.

Now, I understand that the drawing might not be to scale, but there is no way anything that big would only cost $500K. Small planes cost that much. Either the actual drones are much smaller, or that cost is misleading.

Seems like a problem just waiting to happen. Think I'll stay home and watch it on TV.

The Yankees rotation: CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Phil Hughes, Ivan Nova and Freddy Garcia.

Well so far VCU is taking it to Kansas. I'm pretty impressed/surprised.

Second that. Assuming these things ever fly -- and that's a big assumption -- how comfortable would you be with this "cloud" hovering over you? As in, how much time are you going to spend watching the game vs. staring up and asking yourself, "Wait, did it just drop lower? Should I run for the exit?"

I dont think yall are giving the ppl of Qatar enough credit.

Enough credit for what? Hubris? There isn't anybody in the world I'd trust to build that thing.
