Oh, and I gave everyone 'til Saturday noon (Eastern US time) to get their picks in.

In!

I'm in, NoMich, and thanks for setting this up.

Huh. For some reason, I'm not able to connect to the site anymore.

posted by NoMich at 08:26 AM on January 05, 2011

Hmmmm, I can't either. I guess you better get your favorite spreadsheet application ready to do it the old fashioned way. Or maybe try paging DrJohnEvans or qbert72. I'm pretty sure q is the host though, so DJE might not be able to help.

On edit: I can still access previous confidence pools, perhaps its a bad link?

On 2nd edit: Well the links I used yesterday are not working, maybe this particular pool is borked.

3rd: Maybe not, can't access the Project Confidence home page now but can still access previous pool results, so...I don't know.

I know that q left us a few years ago. I wonder if he killed the site. Honestly, I had no idea who or what was hosting the site. If I stepped on some toes, please accept my sincerest apologies for doing so.

Dammit, this was my year. Y'all got lucky.

I managed to get in and make my picks a few days ago (while in China, of all places). However the site wouldn't let my picks load.

Oh well, my usual contrarian picks mean that the Seahawks will now just have to win without my help.

Is anyone going to do a pick 'em?

posted by NoMich at 06:27 AM on January 07, 2011

Why don't you do it, NoMich? We can just post our confidence pool picks here, and you can assemble them in a spreadsheet. It's not like a confidence pool is too hard to run: we only pick once and let it ride throughout the playoffs.

In any case, here are your twelve 2011 playoff Teams, by playoff seed & conference. Don't be too swayed by the seed; for example, the 7-9 Seahawks are a 4 seed simply because they were the worst divisional winner. On the other hand, I have a weird feeling they'll beat the Saints...

AFC:
(1) New England Patriots (14-2)
(2) Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4)
(3) Indianapolis Colts (10-6)
(4) Kansas City Chiefs (10-6)
(5) Baltimore Ravens (12-4)
(6) NY Jets (11-5)

NFC:
(1) Atlanta Falcons (13-3)
(2) Chicago Bears (11-5)
(3) Philadelphia Eagles (10-6)
(4) Seattle Seahawks (7-9)
(5) New Orleans Saints (11-5)
(6) Green Bay Packers (10-6)

I'll check back later today, and if no one's taken it up I'll handle computing the confidence picks myself. To get things (re)started here are my picks:

1. Patriots (14-2)
2. Falcons (13-3)
3. Steelers (12-4)
4. Ravens (12-4)
5. Bears (11-5)
6. Eagles (10-6)
7. Jets (11-5)
8. Packers (10-6)
9. Colts (10-6)
10. Chiefs (10-6)
11. Seahawks (7-9)
12. Saints (11-5)

apoch seems to really enjoy running the pick 'em games for the sports that the good Dr John doesn't do, so it's all his game.

Um.... so, as far as I can tell in about 13 and a 1/2 hours I'll win the confidence pool by outright default.

1. Saints 2. Patriots 3. Jets 4. Steelers 5. Packers 6. Eagles 7. Ravens 8. Bears 9. Colts 10. Chiefs 11. Packers 12. Seahawks

Just so it's a contest.

I've put in the winning teams into my spreadsheet, and here are the results after the first week.

The "retired points" field reflects the total points of picks for that player who are no longer in the playoffs, so in this case a lower number is better (as it suggests the teams you put lowest in your confidence pool are already out, while the big earners are still around).

I believe I inputted everyone's picks correctly, so please check your math for the first week and see if there are any anomalies. Note: In the case of owlhouse, I had to make a judgment call: he didn't specify the Falcons, but chose the Packers twice. I opted to thus leave the Packers in the first space he put them (worth 8 points) and for the second time he listed them (2 points) I put the Falcons in.

Thanks

Sorry about that. There are clearly too many NFL teams for me to get my head around.

That's why I'm a Lions fan.

Hey, NoMich! The link is working now so maybe you can try entering some scores.

posted by MrFrisby at 09:52 AM on January 19, 2011

Cool, thanks for pointing that out, Fritsy. I entered all of the scores, but the standings aren't working. Guess I'll have to do all this shit by hand. bleh!

Wait, it's working now. Very cool. Oh, and lookie at who is kickin all y'all's asses.
