Fox Sports is taking out ads in Houston declaring the Texas Rangers as "Texas' Baseball Team." The network appears to be taking it hard that the Houston Astros left Fox for a startup sports network.

Peyton Manning gives running back feedback during play for missing a blocking assignment: "God damnit, Donald!"

I wonder if hard-line Christians will take Peyton to task for taking the Lord's name in vain?

Peyton probably learned all that dirty talk while growing up in godless New Orleans. Heaven help him.

Meanwhile, any religion that lends its name to an elite football team that calls itself the Horned Frogs has no business passing judgment on what people say under duress in otherwise wholesome, milk-drinking Indianapolis.

Liverpool. Torres. 2-0. What a great finish/start to the week.

Ndamukong Suh just tried an extra point for the Lions.

I don't even...

Suh missed... but Wes Welker just kicked an extra point for the Pats.

posted by Mr Bismarck at 03:35 PM on November 07, 2010

And the Suh miss was basically the difference between going to OT and losing or (most likely) winning in regulation or (possibly) losing in regulation. But no way does it subsequently go to overtime if he makes the kick.

If Suh makes the PAT and it was 21-10, the Jets most likely go for two when they score the TD. If they make it, it's 21-18 and a FG would have tied it.

Did Suh get to kick it just for shits and giggles, or was Detroit's kicker out? Gostkowski had a groin problem (don't we all?) and was out of the game.

I must profess ignorance in Suh's PAT-kicking experience, but doesn't it make more sense to send in your punter to attempt the PAT in that situation? Nick Harris booted the ensuing kickoff (badly, but probably better than Suh could've done), so why not give him a shot at the PAT?

On preview,

fraze, Hanson was hit on a FG attempt that gave the Lions the opportunity to score the TD. He came back later in the game, but was a bit sore during the PAT and kickoff afterward...

Watching end of Oakland game on Gametrax on Foxsports.com and it said Sebastian Janikowski 96 yard field goal. Man, I hope that's a misprint. On edit: OK corrected now, only 47 yards. That's better.

NFL.com made the same error. Campbell completed a pass to KC's 22 and it said it went to Oakland's 22 instead. Then they didn't correct the error before the kick.

According to some reports, it's because Suh played soccer (!) in college.

I would be hoping it WASN'T a misprint, and just some INSANE wind conditions.

I want to shake the hand of the coach who has the balls to order up a 96-yard field goal, even if his kicker guarantees he will make it.

Actually, since he was a kid. But that's straw-clutch reporting: my guess is that he started taking kicks at practice because he's got a footballer's heart and itchy feet, and his basic mechanics and coordination allowed him to develop a very different skill to a decentish (though clearly suboptimal) degree.

I know it's a cliche to talk about "the magic of the FA Cup", but the second round draw has thrown up the interesting potential matchup of AFC Wimbledon versus MK Dons (if they both win their first round replays), and if FC United of Manchester can beat either Woking or Brighton, they then go into the third round draw which could put them up against that other less lovable United.

And for real romantics, Swindon Supermarine, the former works team from the company that built the Spitfire, are into the second round. Chocks away! Scramble!

AFC Wimbledon fans would go nuts if they played MK Dons. It's likely to end in heartbreak, since the real Dons are still Non-League several levels below their former club, but it would be the match of the round.

I watched a little of the Wimbeldon match this weekend and noticed a "The Devil is a Don" banner hanging in the stands.

I read a good piece about how AFC Wimbledon fans would prefer not to acknowledge the existence of "Franchise", and the discussion in comments talks about a supporter boycott or some other way to make the point.

The prospective tie would be at Kingsmeadow, AFCW's home ground, and the prospect of splitting gate receipts with MK Dons -- as is standard for FA Cup ties -- clearly sickens AFCW fans.
