Parcells Steps Aside in Miami: Bill Parcells is turning over control of the Miami Dolphins to general manager Jeff Ireland, a move announced in a three-sentence press statement. Parcells was executive vice president of football operations for the team and is now described as a "daily consultant."
Everyone pretty much knew (or assumed) when he joined the Dolphons that the time would come when Parcells left to help build another team.

If so, then maybe one of the other Florida teams. I think he still lives in Jupiter. Hard to think that he'd want to stop commuting to work and go rent a place outside of Buffalo at this point.

The Bucs are too cheap to pay him. Anyway, the Bucs fired Dungy hoping to get Parcells and then ended up paying big to get Gruden to escape serious embarrassment.

Is the guy only allowed to play golf in a warm-climate area if he works for the Dolphins? My point is, if I could get my $12 million contract paid to me without having to do the work, and I'm 69, I'd run away from the stupid job. True, Parcells will be courted by other teams, but eventually he should enjoy his cash and give up the headaches.

Parcells is the greatest turn-around guy in the sport (maybe any sport). If, for love of the game, he's not going to sit on a nice beach resting on his piles of cash, I'd love to see him challenge himself by rebuilding one of the perennial basement dwellers - the Lions, the Raiders, the Bucs. Maybe he should see if his skills transfer to another sport, say to himself, my resolution is to turn a 2nd division English league team into a Premiership team over X years. I mean, really, what else is left for the guy in the NFL?

Yes, he is good at what he does. I don't disagree with that. Yes, he does have a huge ego. Nobody argues with that. My point is the ridiculous way these teams toss guaranteed money around in this day and age. Parcells gets all of his $12 million, now can walk off and sign for millions more, guaranteed, put in a few years of the contract, then take off again. More power to him being able to soak a bullshit system, but come on! As time goes on, I think it looks like a love of money more than a love of the game.

I don't think there's anything bullshit about guaranteed money in the NFL, particularly for players. The Dolphins wanted Parcells and reached a deal to get him. He didn't take advantage of anybody.

Leading a team to a Super Bowl victory that isn't named the Giants.

Based on his time in Dallas, my impression of Parcells is that he's not particularly happy working in the NFL but he keeps getting drawn back to it. Maybe he's really bad at leisure time.

I can't recall the last time I bought tickets to an NFL game with love instead of money.

You might be able to work something out on Craigslist.

I don't think he could, in the U.S.A., but he'd probably be able to make suitable arrangements in Canada (for the time being, anyway).

I object to the Bucs being included in this company. We have won the NFC South more than any other team.

And won a Superbowl recently and look to be coming back around just fine.

The guaranteed money will come in handy next year when the league is shut down.

From the story: The 69-year-old Parcells can leave Miami at any time and collect the balance of the $12 million due him under a four-year contract that expires after the 2011 season.
My only question: Why the hell would he stay?
