Derek Lee headed to Atlanta: Braves trade 3 pitching prospects for Cubs 1st baseman.

Good for the Cubs, who need to rebuild at this point, and good for Derrek, who gets another shot with a contender. I couldn't blame him for turning down the Angels trade; at the time, the Angels were barely any closer to first place than the Cubs were. Plus, switching leagues (especially when you've been in one league for your entire career) rarely works well for a hitter. This should suit Lee better.

This sounds like the Cubs got rid of some salary for a bag of baseballs and a box of bats. As for the Braves, with the injuries they've sustained this year, the addition of Lee might not be enough to carry them to the post-season. Even if it is, how far will they get facing the likes of Cincinnati, San Diego, Philadelphia, San Francisco, or St. Louis? It's a tough call for management when you're in a position like that of Atlanta, but if done cheaply enough, and in this case it is likely so, it makes sense.

Well they've managed OK with it up to this point...3rd best record in the majors and playing better ball than all of those teams you listed save San Diego.

Braves have winning records against each of these teams except the Cards.

I think this is the ol' "available bad contract with possible upside that can be acquired immediately for low player cost now for gods sake pack him in Styrofoam before he BREAKS", trade.
Also - um... Derek Lee kinda sucks now (with the sincere exception of his last three games). No?
