LeBron James takes out newspaper ad to thank Akron: Two days after Zydrunas Ilgauskas took out an ad in The Plain Dealer to thank the fans of Cleveland for their support, LeBron James placed a similar ad in the Beacon-Journal in Akron.

Mike & Mike were hitting LeBron pretty hard this morning about this ad. Seemed like a big deal about nothing to me.

Well, it stinks of afterthought and a lack of sincerity when you do it a day after your former teammate is praised for doing it.

I haven't been a big fan of LeBron lately, but good on him here. I hope he continues his commitment to his hometown.

No mention of Cleveland, or the fans, or his teammates. I think something went really really sour there. I do wonder whether or not any of those Delonte West/Lebron Mom rumors had any validity.
Also - why now? Why not earlier? It's a bit suspect.

And the people of Akron say fuck you, don't bother.

Little late but ultimately the right thing to do, and the fact that he did it in the Akron paper and not Cleveland should earn him some favor in his hometown - seems more genuine and less of a ploy - although his timing w the bike event gives me pause.
My guess is the talking heads give him a pat him on the head and decide that now it's time to move on.
