Chone Figgins Brawls in Dugout with Manager: Seattle Mariners second baseman Chone Figgins was benched midgame for lack of effort Friday night, sparking a dugout brawl between him and manager Don Wakamatsu. See video. After losing 2-1 to the Boston Red Sox, the team's now 23 games under .500.
From the video, it did look like a lack of effort to stop the ball. Certainly a lame throw, but Figgins didn't even make an effort to get over to the ball.

Well, if he cut in front of Mike Cameron (who was running into 2nd) and either impeded his progress or even bumped him, then the umpire could have called interference on the play and awarded Cameron 3rd base.
I think the throw was SO far off-line that Figgins was just confused on who the hell it was supposed to go to.
The pitcher? The first baseman?
I think if he at least flinches towards the ball and then backs up because of Cameron's approach, then nothing happens and no one cares.
In the end, I'd be more pissed with Saunders overthrowing the cut-off man than Figgins' actions.

Figgins may have had words with Wakamatsu that set everything off, but that's not Figgins in the "brawl". He's the guy standing in the back with "Figgins" printed on his shirt.
And I agree that he looks more confused by the throw than anything. Maybe he shouldn't have been confused, but as the story points out, the throw was to the shortstop.
"Lazy" and "brawl" are two words I never would have expected to see in a story about Chone Figgins.
