Moyer keeps on rolling.:
Jamie Moyer becomes the oldest pitcher (over 47 years old) to throw a complete game shutout.

Let's play, "How old is Moyer?"

He's so old, that in between the date of his first complete game shutout and his most current one, there have been:

  • 5 presidents (Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush II, Obama)

  • 7 pitchers (Lincecum, Santana, Johnson, Clemens, Martinez, Maddux, Glavine) who have won multiple Cy Young awards

  • 4 franchises (Colorado, Florida, Tampa Bay, Arizona) added, 1 franchise switch leagues (Milwaukee), and 1 franchise move (Montreal)

  • Rickey Henderson switched teams 11 more times, retired, waited 5 years, and was elected into the HOF.

  • 15 different franchises have won the World Series

  • 4 different pitchers won at least 300 games during that time period

  • 10 different batters hit at least 500 home runs during that time period

And I don't have him on any of my fantasy teams. But as a Phillies' fan, he can stay as long as he wants ... even if he's throwing from a rocking chair!

Someone on ESPN said that if he picked up the knuckleball, he could probably pitch until he was 60. Thoughts?

Oh, and one more bullet for the list - not even Moyer remembers when the Cubs last won the World Series.

Was at the game last night (perfect weather, perfect ballpark, perfect team). Moyer throws a fastball that barely breaks 80 and a curveball in the high 60s. Not sure how he gets away with it but the result last night spoke for itself.

I kinda thought this was going to be a good year for the Braves in Bobby C.'s last year, with some new talent on the team, and glimpses of a possible bright future appearing late in the 2009 season.

Still a lot of baseball to be played, but thus far, the Braves have already been no-hit and now schooled by Methuselah.
