Raiders, NFL can't allow abusive Cable to continue as head coach : I'm just surprised this hasn't been posted.

Michael Silver had a very credible story, I thought, http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-hansonspeaks101009&prov=yhoo&type=lgns And now the ex-wife and girlfriend as well. Does Davis do anything?

"It's one thing to have a physical altercation with another man in the testosterone-fueled world of the NFL."

Why is Ann Killion giving Cable a pass for assaulting Randy Hanson? Flipping out at a team meeting and breaking somebody's jaw isn't any more acceptable than domestic violence.

It is also a lot more relevant to Cable's job as head coach.

She's not giving him a pass. She's saying it's a lot worse that he has a history of beating women. I'd agree with that.

Well in this day and age of equal rights, I think think the sex of the person you assault is irrelevant.

This guy is obviously an ass and needs to be removed from his coaching position. He has anger issues, self control issues, and most importantly he is a lousy coach which is reflected by his record.

I'm trying to find a link for it, but j5v sent me a note yesterday in which the Raiders' GM indicated that Marc Trestman (currently the HC for the Montreal Alouettes, former OC with the Raiders) would be the next head coach.

I'm thinking that puts just that little bit of pressure on him to push the Als to actually win the Grey Cup this year. Couldn't think of a better, more classy replacement for the douchebag presently at the helm.

*please note that I reserve the right to retract the use of "douchebag" (or may substitute with asshat) upon further development of this story.

Not many Raider fans liked this guy from the day he was given the head coaching job- they were shocked that he was even considered. Hell, for that matter there were a lot of people who felt he should have been fired instead of Kiffin.

Everyone rejoiced when they heard about the altercation with Hanson, feeling that Al had to act and they would finally be rid of this jackass. People were stunned that neither the Raiders or the NFL took any action, especially after the harsh penalties handed down for lesser offenses. The fans here are pretty sure that Big Al paid off the Napa DA.

I don't agree that its one thing to have a physical altercation with another man in the testosterone-fueled world of the NFL and another to hit a women. It shows a pattern and a tendency towards violence that Cable obviously has trouble controlling. Add the fact that he excused his abuse of his first wife for reasons of her adultry just deepened my disgust for this crass, classless clown.

Big Al and the NFL are stuck between a rock and a hard place here. If Al doesn't fire him and the NFL doesn't ban him, then they are condoning this type of behavior. A bad signal to send to your fans, but a worse one to send to the players.

While I'd agree that it shows a pattern on the part of Cable, domestic violence and getting into a fight with another coach are very different things.

Domestic violence is a major societal problem. Over 500,00 women are stalked by an intimate partner each year. 5.3 million women are abused each year. 1,232 women are killed each year by an intimate partner.

Every time an athlete/coach gets away with beating his wife/GF, it sets a very ugly precedent for society. For that reason alone, the domestic violence should be treated more seriously.

But I can't help but think that beating a woman is worse than going after another football coach, someone that you would expect could defend himself (I reserve the right to rescind these remarks if Cable hit him in the back of the head or otherwise sucker punched him).

rcade, I left my judgement wood in the deleted graph
