Down here, it's spring, which means footy finals time. In the Aussie Rules, St Kilda are hoping for only their second ever flag, while in the Rugby League, any one of the final eight might win, but probably not Newcastle.

Didn't the Greatest show on Turf, St. Louis Rams do something similar to this until celebrating after a towndown became a no-no in the NFL?

That's actually borrowed from a well-known CFL touchdown celebration, The Grenade.
Of course, it's pretty tame compared to such classics as "The Stationary Bike", "The Free Throw", "The Five-Man Bobsled", and my personal favourite, Duck-Duck-Goose.

I don't mind that celebration, especially for a walk-off. Baseball is meant to be fun, I thought, in contrast to the deadly serious business of NFL football.

An unfortunate record setting Labor day.

At the U.S. Open, Melanie Oudin just keeps on winning, today taking out the 13 seed Nadia Petrova 1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3 to move into the quarterfinals of the women's draw.

Mad Monday. What happens when your rugby league team misses the finals series at the end of the season? You punch out the coach, of course.
Thanks for the Prince Fielder clip, rcade. I joined the Marines straight afterwards.

And no one's going to mention Ichiro's 2,000th hit, second-fastest all time? Some kind of huddle this turned out to be!!!

We called an audible on mentioning anything related to Seattle franchises.

Baseball isn't meant to be fun. It IS fun. Jumping around and on each other after a walk off is great. You really calling that "serious"?
There's a ton of choreographed celebrations that go on in the dugout. There's no need for it on the field. Save it for Major League 4.

Looming on the horizon this week:
"Notre Dame v. Michigan. It's a clash of the titans, folks. Game of the century. Everything is on the line. The fate of the upper midwest hangs in the balance. Folks, for the loser of this game, it might be the only game they lose this season. When dusk falls on Ann Arbor only one undefeated team will be left standing victorious on the field of battle. Settle in and get ready for a great ride."
That was the essay I wrote as part of my entrance exam for the Brent Musburger School of Broadcasting.
I made no hallucinatory predictions in my essay - I'll do that next week when I apply to the Lou Holtz School of Broadcasting.
