Seattle Seahawks Sign Edgerrin James: Edgerrin James has signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. The running back, now 31, is the 11th all-time rusher but is coming off his worst year as a pro -- 514 yards and three touchdowns for the Arizona Cardinals -- and only started seven games.
He's done. Seattle is obviosly trying to save money not win a championship.
Quiet non-believer. A lot can be said about the fact that the Cards had a different running attack last year that didn't include James. Be honest, who would you rather hand the ball to (or throw it to): James or Duckett? Or Julius Jones? And what's the harm? James doesn't work out you ship him off. It's only a one year deal.
What they really need is an O line. And a new disc for Trufant.

Didn't the Seahawks just let Duckett go?

Duckett was cut, from what I understand.
The Seahawks boards are up in arms over bringing in Edge. Some have even called for bringing back Shaun Alexander, who for all intents and purposes, is retired. Duckett was really productive from 3rd and goal, but you can't base your whole game around that. Jones and James are similar backs style-wise with the decided edge going to, well, Edge. And what I saw of him in the Iggles playoff game last year and the "Big Game" appeared that there is still something left in the tank, particularly if you platoon him.

I agree with THX-1138; he's not a feature back anymore but I think he's got enough raw talent and energy left to be a productive platoon player with Jones. Ideally, this will help keep Jones healthy too and provide a productive backfield for the Seahawks.

What Seattle needs is for Hasselbeck to come back and play at top-form. Without him it won't matter if it's Jones or James in the backfield.

And for him to have targets that are a grade better than the cheerleaders he was throwing to on his limited basis last year. You would think that between Housh, Burleson, and Branch somebody might catch a few tosses.
(Thanks for the homer thread, BTW rcade)
