Giants' Receiver Burress Shoots Leg in Gun Accident: New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg with his own gun at a New York City club Friday night. The injury required hospitalization but is not life-threatening, a source told Newsday. Burress had a concealed weapon permit in Florida that might be active, but New York does not recognize the permit so he could face charges.

Why does Plaxico Burress bring a gun to a club? Is that what we're supposed to be doing these days? That's a needed accessory? It's ri-goddamn-diculous.

Thumper - you sir, are a class act. You do realize that if one goes around saying something like "everyone in New York is an idiot" - it serves only to make you look like one.

Guns don't shoot people. Stupid football players do.

Thumper: Keep your petty personal feuds out of here.

Wow, and it was already gone by the time I posted. Nice work moderator type people.

Were the Giants in the shotgun formation when this happened?

I'm just finishing up a bit of paperwork on Plaxico's behalf.

He'll be needing a new source of income in the future.

So I've submitted a job application for him in Bentonville, Arkansas. If all goes well, he'll be awarded a permanent position as head of overnight hospitality at the entrance of the Greater Long Island Trample Zone Wal-Mart.

Next time there's a consumer stampede in the composure capital of the US, it'll be Plaxico and his leg-loving personal firearm trying to hold back a surging crowd of crazed, turkey-bloated holiday shoppers as the metal and glass give way.

Interesting that the article states his license had expired in May 08, and that some states allow up to 6 months to renew. And that puts the deadline at tomorrow. We'll see if they push that paperwork through in time.

Plax has always been a good w/r, but he has never been good at using his brain. Some things with him will never change. Look at his arrest problems he had when he was a Steeler.

The guy is already out due to leg issues, but he has no problem hitting the clubs. The guy has been nothing but a huge, non-stop problem this season for the Giants, from his holdout, to his suspension, to injuries, to shooting himself. The Giants proved last year they could fare better without one major distraction (Jeremy Shockey), and they will probably seriously consider parting ways with this one too. Too bad for the Giants. Burress has a great deal of talent and, if he could get his act together, he'd he really could be a vital cog as the Giants try to repeat. But it's like Steven A. Smith said on ESPN today: If a guy needs to take a gun with him in order to go out, maybe he shouldn't go out.

As for Pierce, I guess he's watched one too many episodes of The Sopranos.

The man is a fool. One, he knew he didn't have a legal permit, and whether or not his Florida license is active or not is a moot point. The states don't have reciprocity set up, and he knew that (or at least should have as part of being a responsible citizen). Beyond that, in Florida it is illegal to bring a concealed weapon into a bar/nightclub, so even in Miami he'd have been violating the law.

Two, to "accidently" shoot yourself you have to create the circumstances in which that can happen. Gun is loaded, with a round in the chamber ready to fire, safety is off, trigger unprotected. Anyone with a handgun permit knows better.

Why set yourself up for this? I hope the league suspends him for a year.

How about a year -- without pay?

The Giants showed they didn't need him in Washington.

If you manage to shoot yourself in a public place with your concealed carry, should you really have a license?

He's gonna plead not guilty?

He shot himself in the leg with the friggin thing!

Tony Siragusa does his own PSA during the later part of the Giants game. He says something to the effect of telling the young people of America that if they have to bring a gun to a place that they want to go to, it means that they should find somewhere else to go. As if the night club is somehow at fault here.

That was great, treman, I heard it too; Siragusa's absolutely right. I liked when he said if he goes to a nightclub and there's a guy with a wand frisking people at the door, he says, "You need to wand me? What kind of people do you let in here, anyway? I have a family to go home to." And then he leaves.

Can someone get Jerry Jones on the phone? He hasn't signed a troubled castoff from another team in nearly 7 weeks.

Another dumbass wide receiver... What is wrong with these guys? I guess having a mental imbalance is an important part of being good at catching a football...

Plaxico is an idiot of the highest order -- the Giants have been too loyal to him. Time to wave him bye-bye.

This whole situation is turning into a big joke.
