I clicked through, got to the players page, and thought, what the hell am I doing? Although I did just lose the job I had that blocked this site, so fuggit, let's try again. Carburetor Dung FC is in the hizzy. (Note to self: keep a close watch on the transfer wire for the next month, ffs.)

Back for a second try as Buckeye FC. Hopefully I can keep my late season momentum instead of matching my decent start then free-fall.

Do I need to pick my team before I can join the league? And are transfers free until the season starts?

Thanks for the invite garfield. The Bombers are in. Try not to laugh to hard.

Just fill your roster with warm bodies. You can re-tool all you want until the ball is kicked, no transfer fees. And heed chico's warning. Key players can switch teams and put you over the 3 per team limit.

Hmm. Seems like last year's (and the year before's) league is still in there is last year's participants chose to RENEW their participation. I guess I am the admin from two years ago because I have the power to suspend those that are already in the league The only person in the new league that hasn't already renewed their spot in the old league is BoKnows. The code for brand new entrants (who cannot renew a spot) to join Spofi EPL Fantasy (classic edition) is 88297-23343. You know, to make things unnecessarily complicated.

Key players can switch teams and put you over the 3 per team limit. Or leave the EPL altogether. But hey, go ahead. Bet the farm on Cronaldo and Adebayor, and take the rest of the summer off. You deserve it.

posted by chicobangs at 03:43 PM on July 09, 2008

gspm, did I create an extra league? Should I delete?

posted by garfield at 04:03 PM on July 09, 2008

Bo, there definitely should be no fear of laughter. I didn't have a clue what I was doing three seasons ago, and look at me now.

posted by garfield at 04:29 PM on July 09, 2008

Thanks gspm. I am in the other league now. Bo, there definitely should be no fear of laughter No fear, just keep it down so you don't upset your neighbors.

I'm in, but I've no idea why. Maybe just to make the rest of you look good...

I'm in as Substandard Liege. No Derby County to distract me this year.

Newbie Question: Do you select the league after you've built your team?

posted by 86 at 08:06 AM on July 10, 2008

That is correct, sir.

86's 86ers are signed up and flying blind.

I'm in again as Hamburglar SV.

But hey, go ahead. Bet the farm on Cronaldo and Adebayor, and take the rest of the summer off. You deserve it. I didn't know Barcelona or Inter players were good for points here!

posted by trox at 01:37 PM on July 10, 2008

Oh, yeah, absolutely, they totally are. Totally. Seriously, go for it.

So there are two Spofi leagues as it stands now: the incumbent auto-renewing one and the new one. Are we going to keep both? It's fine, it's just -- kind of redundant.

posted by chicobangs at 09:47 AM on July 11, 2008

I'm going to delete the new league. I didn't know about the auto-renew and was over excited after EURO 08.

posted by garfield at 11:22 AM on July 11, 2008

So do I have to do anything?

posted by owlhouse at 06:13 PM on July 11, 2008

Pick all the Rams.

posted by Texan_lost_in_NY at 08:24 PM on July 11, 2008

Yeah, I'm in. Who f-n told squealy? No one told me. The admin of last year's league chose to reactivate the old league. I did this myself for another league that I admin. This automatically puts all those teams who were in the league last season into this season's league as soon as they set up their team. Those who don't want to take part in this reactivated league have to opt out themselves. Boy that was confusing.

So there are two Spofi leagues as it stands now: the incumbent auto-renewing one and the new one. Are we going to keep both? I'd say keep the incumbent auto-renewing one as it's less effort for the participants. Newbie players can request the code to join.

posted by squealy at 08:46 AM on July 14, 2008

I'd say the admin should eject squealy. It's the only chance I'll get to win.

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:03 PM on July 14, 2008

Fine by me as I always run out of mini-leagues. You still wouldn't win though.

posted by squealy at 04:16 PM on July 14, 2008

Even outside of the league, you still find a way to crush my hopes and dreams. Damn you, squealy! Damn you to heeeelllllllll!

posted by worldcup2002 at 04:55 PM on July 14, 2008

Any guesses on the player with the highest point total at the end of the season?

posted by garfield at 12:34 PM on July 16, 2008

I'm in. I promise to actually keep an eye on the team this year..

Guardian has a free league as well. Setup is similar but player values, scoring, and a few other things are somewhat different. Anyone fielding a team in Guardian's league?

posted by lawn_wrangler at 11:07 AM on July 23, 2008

I fielded one, but I'm just experimenting with it this time round. I could set up a group if there's any interest.

posted by trox at 11:13 AM on July 23, 2008

Looking a little more closely at Guardian's scoring table, it seems like there are some key differences with the Premier League's. Clean sheets per half, crosses, clearances, blocked shots, etc. Many of these things were duly reflected in the Premier League's bonus system, but my impression is that it was heavily weighted in favor of the winning team. Of course, on Guardian your defense is getting docked for each goal...so there is some counterweight for performing well on a poor team.

posted by lawn_wrangler at 02:10 PM on July 23, 2008

I've set up a team in the Guardian league as well.

posted by salmacis at 06:47 AM on July 25, 2008

I'm game for a bash a the Guardian league, as I am so crap at this one!
