The league is back!: Yahoo opened fantasy baseball for business. Last year's league was renewed and all managers should have gotten an invite link.
If there is an opening Yukon, please let me know.

I'm in again. Ready for some more mid-table mediocrity.

I'd like to get in, provided I can make the live draft. Please e-mail if there is an opening.

I'll rest on my laurels, thanks. Bo can have "my" slot. It was fun but I never got the hang of maintaining my roster so it didn't need constant attention (which was a large part of the reason for my Costanza).

Thread hack: For those who aren't fans of roto or can't get a spot there is also an annual H2H league. I'll renew the league soon. Even if all the players return from last year we'll still have openings.

Yang, how does H2H work with baseball?

The stat categories are the same as roto, home runs, stolen bases, wins, saves, ect. Each week a team has a match up with one other team. The match up lasts a week and the stats from just that week are pitted against each other. For example, if our two teams were playing each other and my team had more home runs over the week I would win the home run category. If you had more saves you would win the saves category. There isn't a winner take all system, rather the records from each week get added up over the season. So if you win six of the categories in our matchup, lose three, and tie one then your record for the week is 6-3-1. If you go 2-7-1 the next week then your overall record goes to 8-10-2. Towards the end of the season there are playoffs with the top teams from the regular season, with the team winning the most categories advancing, and the last one standing is the champion. Hopefully that was clear enough.

Okay, so how does the roster management work? Do I have to have my players in place before (say) Monday, and then that roster is what's in effect for the next week?

If you weren't in the league last year, you can use this link to signup. Yahoo Fantasy Baseball '08 People come and go in the league, my intent was not to exclude anyone - Yahoo just added that feature (email everyone from last year) in the setup process.

Thanks Yukon. I'm all signed up. I hope (at the very least), I make you all look real good.

Bo I linked to the wrong league, oops. Here is the right link. Spofi- Yahoo Fantasy Baseball '08 Gary, would you mind fixing that mistake for me?

Should be correct now.

Ok. Well, I'm in the new (correct) league now. Is that your other league Yukon? Just kick me out, I guess.

Okay, well, I suppose I'll just have to take a closer look at it to figure out wtf. Thanks.

Thanks Gary. Yeah Bo, I just deleted you - sorry for the mixup. Too much fantasy baseball excitement.

You wouldn't want to know what goes on in that other league anyway.
posted by yerfatma at 03:31 PM on February 07, 2008
LBB, you manage your lineup just like you would in the roto league; all the stat categories are added up as the week goes on, and the player with the better score in each category wins that category. If you and I are head to head this week, and you win Runs, Hits, HR, SB, and Avg., and I win ERA, Wins, and SO, then you win the week 5 - 3. This happens every week, all season long, and you keep adding up the weekly scores until playoff time. With all that said, The Fightin' PEDs are gonna straight up murder your asses. Except for jersey, who'll probably beat my brains into tapioca pudding for the third year in a row. This, more than anything else, is why I hate New Jersey.

Thanks for the explanation, TBH. I'm probably asking for waaay too much detail, but what do the rosters look like? How big is the bench, how many pitchers do you get, etc.? (I'm trying to figure out if this is as much work as the other flavor of fantasy baseball, where you constantly have to tweak your roster to deal with pitching rotations and so on.)
posted by lil_brown_bat at 04:14 PM on February 07, 2008
It works just like the other type of league except you play against another team each week and get a weekly result (9-5 for you, 5-9 for me) and the sum of those results determines the league winner at the end of the season.

You wouldn't want to know what goes on in that other league anyway. Does it have anything to do with Sutter-like tenacity?

(I'm trying to figure out if this is as much work as the other flavor of fantasy baseball, where you constantly have to tweak your roster to deal with pitching rotations and so on.) I think head-2-head leagues are more work than rotisserie leagues. In head-2-head you don't have any 162-game limit per position, or innings pitched limits. So you have to be aware of moving players in and out based on off days. From my experience, head-2-head requires more involvement in that sense. I know I haven't posted as much as others here, but I dig yahoo fantasy leagues. I hope nobody minds if I join up this year.

Thanks for the tip, chamo. I'll abstain from both leagues, then -- I was literally a waste of space last year.

I renewed the H2H league from last year and sent an email to the 11 teams from last year whose emails were available. In a day or so I'll post the league ID and password (and other details) and anybody who wants to participate is welcome. Last year we were hard pressed to find just 12 teams so there should be enough openings. Chamo you're more than welcome to join the H2H league.

Someone can have my spot in the roto league, I'd rather play in the H2H league, if there are any spots open. Ying if you could give me a holler if there are any it would be great. Thanks for setting it all up, and thanks to Yukon for the email about the roto also.

5x5. Room for the traditional 18 teams. Draft time TBD (there were no attractive times with the opening rush) Oh and in case you forgot, jerseygirl has won 4 out of 5 and back-2-back crowns. She is a bonafide dynasty.
