Roto league draft reminder: Just a reminder that the Spofi roto league draft is Saturday at 11:45am. I think we have room for 2 more if anyone else wants in.

Urrrgh, dammit, some of us have to work Saturday...and the auto-draft is a pain in the ass! I have to order all of them, basically, is that the deal? Sucks.

You can just let Yahoo! do it for you. They have a pretty good ranking system already in place. You only need to make changes if you disagree with their rankings.

I'm going to have to autodraft. Should I rank Albert Pujols or Cristian Guzman first?

This is That Other League, right? I don't like to drink drafted. I mean, I don't like to draft hungover.

Damn it ... I joined twice. How the hell do I kick myself out?!?

The Yahoo list is pretty good. Comparing their ranking to my personal ranking (using a couple of sources), it matches up pretty well. There are a couple of players I think they ranked WAY too low, and then there are others that I'm REALLY hoping other people get stuck with early in the auto draft. One recommendation is to hit the fantasy news sites and get a list of injured players, and then add those that you think will be out a long time to your "exclude" list. That way you don't accidentally draft Mark Kotsay or something.

I would like to give roto a try so since there is a spot open I am in. Good luck to all!

Damn it ... I joined twice. How the hell do I kick myself out?!? How could Yahoo even allow that? I booted your second team. That means room for one more.

Looks like I'm going to miss this one & the keeper league (back to Africa) but auto draft should be enough to beat most of you clowns.

How did it go?

4 dead, 3 injured and 2 missing. Actually, it went pretty smoothly. One unfortunate pick (Liriano, but not by me), but otherwise okay.

I'm a humble guy, but I must say this in advance -- I think I laid the smack down. Seriously, as long as Biggio stays healthy, all four of my young starters are as good as projected, Carlos Lee has a 50/40 season and Chris Duncan hits .330 with 120 RBIs, I'm a shoo-in. Hmmm ... okay, so ... maybe I'm not a lock.

I am so gonna crush you guys for second place.

I really should have gone through the rankings. I ended up drafting Kris Benson in a later round thanks to Auto Draft.

According to PECOTA projections my team is somewhere between "Not Bad" and "Kinda Promising". Definitely seems better on the pitching side. That hinges on Gagne though, curious if anyone else had him queued up or if you were avoiding him like the plague? I took him the ninth round, felt like I needed to get a closer and he had the high upside. I honestly haven't heard much about him this spring. Good draft everyone, as always...quite enjoyable.

I think I did pretty poorly. I wasn't prepared and kept missing players that I wanted by waiting too long. Then I made some poor decisions. My team will steal a lot of bases and has some upside. That's pretty much it.

Dang, I kinda actually like my team, considering it was autodrafted in an 18 team league.

posted by mbd1 at 09:12 AM on March 12, 2007

Should be a good season.

I mistakenly made the Liriano pick (bad queue management and forgetting to doublecheck before hitting the draft button), but I'm still pretty happy with my team, so it wasn't that disastrous. Thankfully, it happened in a late round.

Well, I finally took a look at my autodrafted team, and...uh, wow. Just...wow. You sure don't see a roster like that every day, do you? Can't wait for opening day...

posted by lil_brown_bat at 03:24 PM on March 12, 2007

We were wondering who was drafting all Yankees and Nick Johnson.

posted by jerseygirl at 08:14 AM on March 13, 2007

Couldn't you have just looked at the screen?

posted by lil_brown_bat at 09:03 AM on March 13, 2007

Well, we wondered, but we didn't wonder that much. Besides, who knows who unhappy_chainsaw_victim or malmros@verizon.net are? Not I.

Besides, who knows who unhappy_chainsaw_victim or malmros@verizon.net are? Not I. Profile. Is this really what y'all were doing Saturday morning? I was skiing. I'm sure I'll get my ass kicked, but it's worth it to go skiing.

Did you just diss us for not autodrafting? edit: nice extended editing time... like 30 minutes. edit part deux: still editing, almost 40 minutes later. edit 3: edit hard with a vengeance. Seriously, its been like an hour.

posted by jerseygirl at 01:23 PM on March 13, 2007

Did you just diss us for not autodrafting? No, but if you really want to spin it that way, I'm sure it can be done. You clearly are really into this, as evidenced by your past winner's status. That's great, and I'm sure you'll kick my ass all over every park in MLB. I'm in it because it sounded like it would be kinda fun, but I'm just not going to go at it with your intensity, that's all. I'm glad you all got a good laugh at my choices, and I'm sure you'll be having many more as the season progresses.

posted by lil_brown_bat at 03:07 PM on March 13, 2007

actually i was a bit PO'd at your choices. i was getting used to being the lone yankee homer in the league.

Oh jesus. Ok, lbb.

Is this really what y'all were doing Saturday morning? I was skiing. I'm sure I'll get my ass kicked, but it's worth it to go skiing. It's not "spin" to read that as "I had something better to do." Besides, I thought you had to work on Saturday... Nevertheless, we all got a good laugh at the Nick Johnson and Juan Rivera picks. If you combine them together, your hybrid player would have two good legs!

posted by grum@work at 05:32 PM on March 13, 2007

Hey, I have a sentimental fondness for the perennially gimpy Nick Johnson (but neither he and Rivera were on my list). And yes, I did have to work on Saturday...but if I hadn't, I would have gone skiing anyway (Saturday work involves skiing, and I got in a couple of free runs, yay). Maybe it's because I only get two days off every two weeks, but I'd strongly prefer to be doing something outdoors when I get a day off.

posted by lil_brown_bat at 05:45 PM on March 13, 2007

Well, for one, I was working any-damn-way, so yeah, I decided to waste a little time drafting my team instead of letting Yahoo! do it. Sorry for my shoddy research habits vis a vis The Mary Malmros Experience.
