Nice draft, all. I'm ready for the season to start.

note to self: spend more time ranking players pre-draft ... and check for injured ones too! oh, yeah ... and recall all of those resumes you sent out to NBA teams to fill any vacancies at GM. finally, when drowning your sorrows for finishing dead-last in a fantasy pool ... wine is fine, but whiskey's quicker

Clearly, the power of Funshine Bear overwhelmed everyone and the draft was full of fun and giggles. What I want to know is... how in the hell does Funshine Bear think he's best friends with Grumpy Bear??? I'm Grumpy Bear. When the fourth round started I had 12 players in my queue. By the time it was my turn to pick? ZERO. Then it took me a full four minutes to take Chris Webber as time expired. Grumpy Bear is officially in the house.

I had a list of the top 175 players (according to Yahoo's ratings). I know we weren't going to draft that many but figured I wouldn't miss anything by considering that group ahead of time. But no, there were loads of players taken from outside my list. I was confused. I mean, those were on purpose since a draft using Yahoo's rankings wouldn't have picked those guys. I don't know anything. But I imagine a bunch of those guys will be on the waiver wire before long. And one thing I noticed, even with one C the pickings seemed to get mighty slim mighty quick. I am prepping for another pool that requires two C. Ugh.

Thank god we only have one, that was hard enough...once Emeka slipped through my fingertips. You can feel free to trade him to me, he's a brainiac not a basketball player. Dead weight. Not that my team needs any more, but I'm willing to help you out.

That was definitely fun.....and I hope that my gambles pay off.

I think the waiver wire will prove key, maybe more this year than any other. It seemed like there were more risky second-tier players out there this year than most (veterns on the decline, people like Nene coming back from injury) and so it's no wonder there were so many flier picks. I got 3 C's, one of which I'm thinking (either Dalembert stays healthy, Mohammed finally finds a team to put up 10 boards a game with or Camby gets hurt and Nene steps in and earns his 10 million a year) will step up. Ideally, two do and one becomes trade fodder. Not a bad draft but I did not see myself drafting Adam Morrison until he fell into my lap. C'mon, points!

crap, i totally forgot about the draft. And by totally forgot, I mean that I was mostly drunk and watching the Cardinals game.

I've got four centers and I'm taking offers. Reasonable offers, though, not Bosh for Mike James gigglers...

Bosh for Corliss Williamson?

posted by YukonGold at 12:07 PM on October 18, 2006

Deal!

Grant Hill and I are taking names... of orthopedic surgeons.

hey, i got Corliss Williamson!?!? Are you mocking me? Maybe me and the old razorback could come for a visit and teach you some manners ;-)

I was playing the role of the agent. You owe me 10%.

Reasonable offers, though, not Bosh for Mike James gigglers... Hey it seemed like a good trade to me. Better than what you countered with at least

you guys still need an extra player?

posted by daddisamm at 05:45 PM on October 18, 2006

oops forget my last comment. Have fun you guys-you should have a fun season! It was fun palying baseball with many of you!

amare stoudemire?? jack daniels told me he was healthy. vagabonds suck at basketball.

Better than what you countered with at least My counter of 7th and 10th round picks for 5th and 11th might not be fair, but c'mon, you offered a 5th rounder for a 1st rounder! That's like me offering Caron Butler for Dwayne Wade. Which I will definitely do, if you're interested...

posted by dusted at 06:34 PM on October 18, 2006

Caron is ready to break out, tread lightly.

posted by YukonGold at 06:36 PM on October 18, 2006

Yeah, but so is that Wade kid.

If anyone is interested, my team is the KNICKS or something like that, and I need a guy wqho can score lots of points. If someone wants t osend me a reasonable offer for someone, ill gladly consider it.

Dusted I'm not looking at draft picks, I'm looking at rankings.

posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 08:32 PM on October 18, 2006

If you're talking about the Yahoo rankings, there are very good reasons the players are not drafted in that order, particularly past the first twenty or so players. A better guide might be Brandon Funston's Big Board, or Rotoworld NBA. They actually update their rankings, while Yahoo chooses long before the season and sticks with it, regardless of injuries, trades or changes on the depth chart.

posted by dusted at 09:12 PM on October 18, 2006

yeah, the ESPN insider rankings must've been a bit dated too, b/c i thought Gasol was a good pick until i found out his foot is busted. mind you, i didn't stick anywhere close to those rankings when making my picks for some strange reason ... my first live draft and i got all flustered or something. i sure wish i had the time to devote to all these fantasy pools though ... golly gosh it shore is a lot of fun, y'all ;)

posted by Spitztengle at 12:40 AM on October 19, 2006

Well the trade that is currently pending is quite one sided, two good players for one doesn't make much sense.

posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 10:34 AM on October 19, 2006

I need to find a way to mutlitask better during the draft. Things change midstream and it's not always easy to just take the next guy in the list. The trade is a 3rd rounder for a 5th and a 12th. In those terms it doesn't seem unreasonable to me

posted by YukonGold at 11:54 AM on October 19, 2006

Correction: for a 5th and a 12th and whatever fantasy points Kaman's hair manages to collect.

posted by smithers at 12:44 PM on October 19, 2006

I personally thought that the trade was pretty good for both sides. I have a surplus of big men on my bench, and needed a scorer. Both sides should benefit from the deal. btw- nobody thought I would od good on the Tiki trade before, and now T. Holt is having a career year, and is ranked like 2nd on the season in points or something.

posted by Kendall at 01:56 PM on October 19, 2006

two good players for one doesn't make much sense I was about to go on a tirade about which round each was drafted in, value of one great player over ten good players, etc., etc. Instead I just offered Jameer Nelson and Chris Wilcox for Dwayne Wade. The response: "Give me a break." EXACTLY, dude.

posted by dusted at 01:58 PM on October 19, 2006

Yeah, but what if Dwayne Wade was offered for Jameer and Wilcox? It slightly alters your perception of the deal...

posted by smithers at 02:26 PM on October 19, 2006

No, my perception wouldn't change. My team would - I'd hit "accept" as quickly as my greedy little fingers can move.

posted by dusted at 04:19 PM on October 19, 2006

Dwayne Wade is available?

posted by YukonGold at 05:14 PM on October 19, 2006
