There's some real potential for ugliness this week, but also the possibility of beauty. Wait, no, that's the NHL preseason. The CFL slate is pretty much just ugly. WEEK 16 Montreal @ Winnipeg (Friday, September 29) At the beginning of the season, I might've picked Montreal to be a .500 club through Week 16, but certainly not by winning seven straight and then losing seven straight. They've got a chance to do just that this week. B.C. @ Hamilton (Saturday, September 30) I'm pretty sure this pick was the theme of a cologne ad: Do you dare? Calgary @ Toronto (Saturday, September 30) You don't know what to ask me, and I don't know what to tell you. This is a healthy relationship. Edmonton @ Saskatchewan (Saturday, September 30) Is this the first time in CFL history that the defending Grey Cup champion, at this mature point in the season, has precisely as many wins as Hamilton? Good luck!

My PointSpread ticket for this week reads H-V-V-V Winnipeg wins this one on a late touchdown to Stegall as he ties Reed and Pringle for the TD title with his second of the game ... Bombers by 4 Lions have something to prove, the TiCats don't ... B.C. by 13 It was Calgary who brought the spirit of the west to the Grey Cup party in Toronto back in '48 ... they wanna keep that spirit alive ... Stampeders by 4 ProLine/PointSpread has the Riders picked to win by 7.5. I'll be damned if I'm gonna bet against the Eskimos, but they've done nothin' but hurt me all year long. Taking the spread, they can lose and I can still win ... Saskatchewan by 4.

Winnipeg by 11 BC by 17 (the Miracle on Turf stops here) Calgary by 21 Edmonton by 3 And the Sydney Swans by less than a goal in the AFL Grand Final on Saturday. You heard it here first, and I have money on it.

Ah, hell...three winners but no point spreads, and I'm still stuck looking up Weedy's kilt. Square Pegs by 12; The Columbians of Britain by 18; The Fightin' Garys of Cal by 5; Katch as Katch Kan by 9.

YYM, you talk about my (and Spitz's) position like it's a bad thing. We have rave parties in the CFL's anteroom. (Don't worry, we pad the pipes!) I got WINNIE by 8 poos! I got 6 moons under my HAMMY! I just TORE someone 5 new ones! And I just sang ESKIMO-MO-MO, HOW DO YOU LIKE IT, HOW DO YOU LIKE IT for 11 hours straight! Gee, this ecstasy is terrific!
