EPL Fantasy League Week 23: Sauril's Wideboys edge out in front.
Shite week for me. I should never have sold Shaun Wright-Phillips. It's looking like a double transfer week here as I suspect .... whoops, almost revealed too much there.
posted by squealy at 06:29 AM on January 17, 2005
woah. how did I get 60 points without Henry getting anything, without my goalie getting a shutout? ahhhh. wright-philips and Lampard.

Top scorer in the Top 10. I'm encouraged to see that only 36 pts separate #7 (me) from #1. This will surely not be a two-horse race as in the past two seasons.

I am still extremely enraged with myself for wussying out on switching back to Lampard for my captain Thursday night; if I had I'd be in 3rd staring down at the top two now.

I think this week will see some real shuffling in the top 7; there's only about 3-9 pts separating any contiguous spot. Man!

If you have Shockwave, you can watch Traore's galactic goof from normal camera (default), left, right, top, behind the goal, halfway line, ball-cam and flying camera views. Looks like he tried to do a little spin-move right in front of his own open goal, and spin-moved his way into an own goal. Stupid bloody plonker.
posted by worldcup2002 at 01:28 PM on January 19, 2005
Holy cow, that's a bush league mistake if I've ever seen one. Hell, all he had to do was leave the ball well enough alone! Apparently, the FA Cup isn't high on Rafa's list of priorites. (Of course, after last weekend, it became a lot higher on my team's than it was before most likely).
posted by trox at 01:53 PM on January 19, 2005
Okay, Dudek is not to blame directly for that goal but I still think we need to replace him.
posted by billsaysthis at 03:14 PM on January 19, 2005
I don't know, i feel bad for Traore. He has really improved this year. I like him much more than Carragher who is a liability. Traore made a mistake, but he couldn't just leave it alone as you say trox, as there was an opponent ready to pounce coming in from the right. What he should have done is just kick the ball away for a corner.
posted by StarFucker at 07:20 AM on January 20, 2005
What he should have done is just kick the ball away for a corner. Which is exactly what Carragher would have done of course.
posted by squealy at 08:33 AM on January 20, 2005
Traore was stuck in central defence whereas he's been playing fullback all season long, and this might have been was a Benitez mistake. If he wanted to give youngsters a chance to play, and rest some of the regulars, why not use Jon Otsemobor to partner Sammi. Or better, couldn't Pellegrino, who had no first team football before last week, use the game to run up his form and develop the partnership with Hyypia and Dudek? Better news: 'Pool have beaten off Chelsea for Scott Carson. Southampton seem like a good first opponent if he's in game shape.

i guess full disclosure should have me clarify that I didn't ditch henry a few weeks ago but last week. Which means this is a great time to go with him because now that I have dropped him he is certain to go on a tear. I thought he was a solid player but his form can seemingly be matched by players at a lesser cost so the difference can go toward improving another position.

I'm sure Henry will score big between now and the end of the season. The question is, will he score enough to justify his price tag, considering who you can get for 4 million less?

I don't know salmacis, WHO can i get for 4 million less?
posted by StarFucker at 02:22 AM on February 01, 2005
Henry: 14.2, 156 points Johnson: 9.4, 114 points Hasselbaink: 10.7, 113 points If you consider that Henry scored a disproportionate amount of his points at the start of the season, the other two look a good bet. Meanwhile the 5.8 million saved by swapping Henry for Johnson is the difference between Lampard & Duff against Solano and Murphy, for example.

How many points are forwards penalized for opposing goals and losses though?
posted by billsaysthis at 04:51 PM on February 01, 2005
none. they are forwards. For playing in a game 1 For playing at least 60 minutes in a game (includes playing points mentioned above) 2 For each goal scored by your goalkeeper or defenders 6 For each goal scored by your midfielders 5 For each goal scored by your forwards 4 For each goal assist 3 For your goalkeeper / defender conceding 0 goals (must also play at least 60 minutes) 4 For your midfielder conceding 0 goals (must also play at least 60 minutes) 2 For every 3 saves made by your goalkeeper 1 For every penalty save 5 For every penalty miss -2 Bonus points for being judged to have made an excellent performance in a game 3 For every 2 goals conceded by your goalkeeper or defenders -1 For every yellow card -1 For every red card (includes any yellow card points) -3
