EPL Fantasy League Week 18: - Bayern who? I'm top at Christmas, but perhaps not for much longer.
Feck sake. I missed the highlighter by one point *again*. If only I'd made someone other than Henry captain. He's a useless twat. I'm selling him this week.

Whenever I make a detailed prediction as part of a taunt, immediately go out and do the opposite if there's still time left. I have 100% record in such matters, trust me, though the taunt (or an actual money bet) is a required factor.
posted by billsaysthis at 12:08 PM on December 21, 2004
heck, if you were in that spot last week, squealy, you'd have been highlighted because it was i who did the table and I had more color coded threat levels (red, orange and yellow) than the traditional Big Calm 2 colour setup. So at least I have an eye on you because you are closer to third than it looks. and Starfucker, the only thing i can see wrong with your team is perhaps you've made 18 transfers yet your team value is only at 102.6. A higher team value might imply that you were able to pick out a few guys that were on the rise (ie Downing - I picked him up in late October at 5.8 and I see you got him last week for 7.2). The more undervalued talent you can find the better team you can assemble because your budget goes farther. I guess.
posted by gspm at 12:13 PM on December 21, 2004
Yeah, SF, use the "Value (Score)" and "Form" options, no just "Total Score", when you're doing transfers. That will help round out your decisions, and maybe highlight some interesting cheap buys. Man, if I have one more week like this, I'll be in the top 3 immediately.

Uh, thanks for the tips boys... But you forget that i am the...well, deserved winner of the FIRST Sportsfilter Premier League Fantasy competition... Fucking Buddha...
posted by StarFucker at 02:36 PM on December 21, 2004
I wasn't even in that competition and I remember that choke job. So then, 02-03 deserved winner (a loser's code for loser) why do you suck so much this year? You are down amongst the people that aren't even participating. Huh? Huh? and FWIW I didn't even bother considering transfers according to anything beyond value and total score until a month ago or so when lo and behold I found those more useful ways of ranking players mentioned above. so, if I did so well without such info at my disposal then I credit my second half rise to the top on my new use of such info while reserving the right to blame my second half fade on the irrational use of such info.

Somehow it's all Houllier's fault (oh wait, that was last year).

Is there any place in the help that explains Value (form)? I have to admit it is completely new and non-obvious to me and I don't see any explanation on the site.

are we relegating after this season? or to put it another way, am i fighting to stay in this league? if so, what place is the cut-off?
posted by garfield at 05:06 PM on December 21, 2004
I can't find an explanation either bill, but I assumed Value (form) was points scored over the last 21 days divided by present cost. I'm basing this on the fact that Form is calculated over the last 21 days. I imagine I could check this, but I can't be arsed.
posted by squealy at 06:14 PM on December 21, 2004
OK, I *could* be arsed to check and that *is* how it's done eg. Scholes points in last 21 days (from end of gameweek) = 32 Divided by gameweeks in last 21 days = 32/3 = 10.7 Divided by present cost of 9.5 = 1.1

Mr. Clamly (and I think I'll let that typo stand), as of this moment your opening words in the post are prescient that not eerily so. Sauril does indeed stand above you now and I believe, but have been wrong on this before, all the points have been awarded for Week 19. Being different, the Yahoo! fantasy masters have decided that their Round 19 includes both today's and the midweek matches. 5-0! Represent! My boy John Arne with the brace. W00t!

SF I don't know and I'm not quibbling. He was defnitely let loose by Benitez. BTW, did you notice how many times the Liverpool fans were chanting for Rafa so loudly they drowned out the host team's fans? Very cool. Now onto those other bottomdwellers, because these are points that must be taken to make a move up.

Morientes move rests on new coach, but article doubts Luxemburgo will make any difference in the move. Secondary: the article suggests the new coach will bring over Brazilian forward Robhino, but I thought he was an (attacking) midfielder; at least he was in the Santos match I saw him play.
