Fantasy NFL 2004: Per this thread, the free yahoo league has been set up. The league ID is 301671 and the password is spofi. The configuration details are shown inside...I'm up for suggested changes. There's a max of 16 teams and the live draft is set for Sat Sep 4 12:30 pm EDT.

Wacky bits you may want to notice are the inclusion of a defensive player, and that offensive players get special teams credit for yards and TDs, while team def only scores on special teams TDs.

It's just so... BIG. Sorry, gay jokes don't belong in football threads! Hrmmmph.

Hey, can we change one thing? I hate waiting three days for trades to go through. Can we eliminate the wait, and just change the rosters back if the league votes against it? Or if not, how about a shorter waiting period?

posted by dusted at 05:28 PM on August 03, 2004

I like the matchups already.

Wow, i've never seen anyone fuck some shit up like this on Sportsfilter before...

posted by StarFucker at 05:56 PM on August 03, 2004

i dropped the trade-wait period to 1 day...which hardly allows anyone time to register their vote. but dusted is right that things could be adjusted later, i suppose. that was a pretty big fuck up, eh? i claim rushing to get things done before i left work...and new baby lack-o-sleep.

posted by danostuporstar at 06:44 PM on August 03, 2004

ooh, I am SO in on this. Of course, with my luck I'll get Kurt Warner and Ricky Williams if I can't make it on draft day...

posted by PeteyStock at 07:59 PM on August 03, 2004

Can't make it on draft day??? Whatdoyou, have a life? Thanks for the set up! So someone else already had a team name featuring the word Meat. . .scary. . .I changed mine.

dano, are we going to have that awesome stats table again this year?

posted by jasonspaceman at 12:54 PM on August 04, 2004

yep, and i've improved the live NFL statistics system. i have yet to write the viewing interface, but hope to have it up for preseason testing.

rainbaby...that would by me with the Meat moniker... =D

I'm The Drunken Irish

posted by mick at 04:13 PM on August 04, 2004

I'm My Pet Goat. (may change since I'm already using that name for another league). I'd like to see 3 WRs starting instead of two. And the draft is currently scheduled for a Saturday at 9:30 AM. That seems like a bad idea. :)

posted by nath at 04:22 PM on August 04, 2004

How about Wednesday or Thursday evening for the draft? Saturday morning works fine for me, I'm just thinking of times that will probably work for everyone.

M. Vick's Haircut here. Which M. Vick? /snark

posted by billsaysthis at 04:40 PM on August 04, 2004

Heh. Mike. Otherwise it would be M. Vick's joint.

Filthadelphia Iggles here.

posted by dogmatic at 04:58 PM on August 04, 2004

I'd like to see 3 WRs starting instead of two. i'd like to add the WR/RB slot and maybe another bench position (currently there are 5 w/9 starters). initially setting things up, i wanted to be conservative given that it's a 16 team (or more) league. it's nice when there's at least a few real-life second stringers on the free agent list. also, maybe the defensive player slot should be dropped, though it's something interesting in my view. i'd like at least one person to chime in before making any changes. re draft time: thursday 9/2 at 10pm Eastern is available. any better? (personally, the evening before 10 (EDT) is hard, but i'm flexible.)

posted by danostuporstar at 05:40 PM on August 04, 2004

I'd prefer the ten eastern on the 2nd if that is possible.

posted by jbou at 05:51 PM on August 04, 2004

weekends or weeknights at 10 seem to work for everyone. I like the idea of having a defensive position player. 2 WRs is perfect for me.

posted by jasonspaceman at 06:20 PM on August 04, 2004

WR/RB sounds interesting, but it would probably be like adding a WR slot, right? Not too many productive RBs are available... so people would just hope for a jackpot with a second-string WR, right? It would throw a strategy wild card in there to keep it interesting.

posted by dusted at 07:41 PM on August 04, 2004

new draft time is Thu Sep 2 10:15pm EDT. also, i added the RB/WR and an extra bench spot. but these topics are certainly still open. also check the scoring system folks. there was a lot of bellyachin' about that last year (admittedly i was the main bitch).

posted by danostuporstar at 08:22 PM on August 04, 2004

Yeah, last year there were points for WR completions, and RBs were devalued. Here's the conversation discussing the "really f-ed scoring system," so we can remember the things we wanted to change. nath had this suggestion.

posted by dusted at 01:10 AM on August 05, 2004

the league as far as i can tell includes:

  1. Band Geeks - mbd1
  2. Dirty Sanchez - catfish
  3. The Drunken Irish - mick
  4. Filthadelphia Iggles - dogmatic
  5. Go Cheney Yourself - nath
  6. Hot Shit - dusted
  7. M. Vick's haircut - trox
  8. Mad World - rainbaby
  9. Meat's Tackle Dummys - MeatSaber
  10. Petes Ploddin Putzes - PeteyStock
  11. Satan's Burning Bush - danostuporstar
  12. the show - jbou
  13. Spacemen - jasonspaceman
3 spots left. (lemme know if i've got you ID'd wrong)

posted by danostuporstar at 01:50 PM on August 05, 2004

Thanks for noticing, dusted. I stand by my statement that that is the most awesome scoring system ever devised. I think the Thursday night draft is fine-- my biggest concern was an early morning weekend for those of us who might be out late the night before.

Still going to require two starting running backs? Maybe the second (instead of third) rb slot should be the flex RB/WR position due to the large number of teams in the league?

posted by rainbaby at 09:12 AM on August 09, 2004

you've got a point, rainbaby. draft day is going to be loonngg! but, fantasy football w/o 2 runnings backs seems, i dunno, really weird to me. how about switching the 2nd starting RB to a second RB/WR...aka "QB, WR, WR, RB, TE, RB/WR, RB/WR K, DEF, D"?

posted by danostuporstar at 10:49 AM on August 09, 2004

I've got two yahoo drafts scheduled for that night, and I'm flying to Denver that morning. Go PickBot!

posted by mbd1 at 11:02 AM on August 09, 2004

It does seem wierd. . .but I've never played in a league this large. Whatever folks want to do is fine - I just wanted to mention it before draft - so nobody gets to cry in their cereal about it later!

posted by rainbaby at 11:35 AM on August 09, 2004

The expansion teams: Rockport Rassafrass - wfrazerjr _ (underscore) - ChasFile

posted by danostuporstar at 12:07 PM on August 11, 2004

Whatever works for people rosterwise is fine. I kind of like the idea of standard rosters because it really makes you do your research on those last spots. Then again, the WR pool is usually deeper so if we go that route that's okay with me too. And I'm glad I found a league with people who appreciate the team name.
