SpoFi CD Swap!: It's been discussed at least twice, and while I'm pulling together the final few selections for my Summer Mix CD, I'm just going to take the damned initiative. If you want to join the SpoFi CD Swap, just e-mail me at the addy in my profile with SpoFi Swap as the subject. [More Inside]

In the e-mail, I'll need your proper name and street address. I figure groups of 4-5 (depending on how many sign up) will be best. It'll all be completely random. All CD's should be playable in any CD player (i.e., not just 15 .mp3 files for downloading purposes). Deadline for signing up is Noon CST, Tuesday, June 22. What would be a good deadline to have for a send-out date? Two weeks from now? Three? Oh, and if you don't send out your discs, I'll make it my everloving journey in life to ensure that not only you never get to participate in a SpoFi swap again, but that your children and your children's children have their lunch money stolen at least twice a week. Further suggestions are appreciated.

Hey, I'd love to join, but my burner's broken right now - I'm short on cash, so I might not get it up in time to join the party. If folks are willing to be patient with me, I'll get the discs out when I'm fully functional.

I'm in. I've never been involved in a swap before, except for that key-thing at ms.robinson's abode, but apart from that, i'm a swap weirgen. Aside from creating a playlist, what else does this entail?

but that your children and your children's children have their lunch money stolen at least twice a week. and he'll smack you so hard, your mom will cry.

I'll leave that up to the masses, rocketman, but if this first one works, we could do this biannually or even quarterly, if there's demand. Also, in your e-mail, please include your SpoFi name. I'll send a confirmation e-mail when I've got you in. On Preview: garfield, once the deadline for signing up has passed, I'll send you a list of names and addys that you'll be swapping with. Burn your CDs, ship 'em out and then anxiously await for MilkMan Dan to drop of your shiny, new, pirated music.

I am deeply ashamed to confess that I haven't purchased a CD for some time, however, if people will accept CDs made entirely from downloaded stuff, I will participate. Should people who have requested G mail accounts then ignored the invite be included?

I'm in. I hope you guys like African goat-herding music.

Downloaded is cool, FB, just make sure it'll play in a non-.mp3 enabled CD player. About half the stuff I put on mine is downloaded, usually. and he'll smack you so hard, your mom will cry. Like Nolan Ryan on Robin Ventura ;)

i'll have to consider it. i'm listening to a lot of crap, but hope to remedy that with the new beastie boys cd tonight. besides, with my luck, jbou would be my cd swap partner and get my address. i'll come home from work and 1918! Whiners! will be spray painted on the garage doors.

or you could have me in your group and get 18 renditions of "new york, new york" :-)

Actually, I'm in the mood to discover some new music, so maybe subjecting you all to my lame musical tastes is worth the potential ridicule.

The Creed thing holds here, right? And I'm not afraid of you corpse: I'd prefer some smog on my CD.

besides, with my luck, jbou would be my cd swap partner . . . Stalking much? In fact, why don't we just have worldcup start mentioning jbou all the time and eliminate the middleman?

posted by yerfatma at 04:29 PM on June 15, 2004

Ok, sounds good. I'll arrange that.

posted by jerseygirl at 04:40 PM on June 15, 2004

I'm in. I love CD swaps. Mostly because you get peoples' real names and addresses, and if you don't like their stuff you can mail them a picture of your ass with their name written across it. P.S. - If anyone gets a picture in the mail of an ass with their name written across it, it totally wasn't me.

or, you could just put it in the CD liner, anyway.

bonus materials, yo.

posted by garfield at 05:14 PM on June 15, 2004

I'd love to but A) I don't have a cd burner B) You wouldn't like my "taste" in music. Hope it all works out though.

posted by squealy at 06:53 PM on June 15, 2004

I don't have a CD burner either..........does anyone like mix tapes?

posted by smithers at 11:22 PM on June 15, 2004

I don't quite understand how one selects the songs.

posted by billsaysthis at 11:33 PM on June 15, 2004

bill, you select whatever songs you want. in the past i've gotten a cd full of religious music from around the world, one of guilty pleasure songs, some electronic type stuff. some people have a theme to their mix. some just put random shit on there. don't worry about what you think people might like. if you have a collection of 80s hair band stuff, then by all means use it. somebody out there will appreciate it. the only rule, like yerfatma mentioned, is no Creed.

posted by goddam at 11:43 PM on June 15, 2004

Bill, the beauty and the pity of it is that you have no clue what you are getting, if anything. It's a great big adventure.

posted by Fat Buddha at 03:08 AM on June 16, 2004

tapes are cool....i've got a sweet mix from back in the day i'd trade with ya smithers.

posted by garfield at 08:25 AM on June 16, 2004

I'll do it as well. Hope you folks like digeridoo and Sudanese mouth-harp. It's the 'new hotness.' Or so I'm told.

posted by sashae at 08:16 PM on June 16, 2004

sashae, I just read your profile: "Best live sports moment was watching DC United defeat the LA Galaxy at the MLS championship in Foxboro, MA in the driving rain, wearing a fireman's coat and a construction hard hat." Didn't I see you at that bachelorette party I was at? Well, not "at", exactly, but if they didn't want people to watch, they should have closed the blinds. And made sure that tree wasn't climbable. I'm just saying.

posted by Samsonov14 at 02:12 AM on June 17, 2004

Can I use you as a witness for the defense in my upcoming trial?

posted by yerfatma at 06:06 AM on June 17, 2004

I'll play. It's been a long time since I've done anything like this, and I've collected a whole new raft of covers of Smashmouth's "All Star" song done by Nepalese nose harp virtuosos. It's pretty hott, actually.

I'd offer to participate, but what I'd send would be the Eldora Mountain Resort Masters race team training funk mix, and it's so much better than anything I might receive. Sorry, but it's true. Make my funk the p-funk,

don't be quick to discount the spofitians' musical knowledge.

posted by garfield at 02:20 PM on June 17, 2004

garfield's right. and why keep all that funky goodness to yourself? i, for one, want my funk uncut.

posted by goddam at 03:35 PM on June 17, 2004

What side of the funk debate are you on? James Brown's platform of "get on up uh," or Kool and Gang's ideological stance of "get down, get down, get down?"

posted by NoMich at 03:47 PM on June 17, 2004

it's so much better than anything I might receive. Sorry, but it's true. That's not a very good attitude, lil_brown_bat. Drop and give me twenty!

I'm of the PE school of funk: get up, get down....whatever makes you shake your rumpa.
