damn, is that member count of 9400 members right? A guy goes away for a while and the place goes crazy.

I cannot figure out how to build a link on my mac, so here is the address. I think that should help explain why it took me a little less than 8 months to get these on here. http://homepage.mac.com/pdspriggs/euro2004/PhotoAlbum14.html

I'd suggest the Decatur or Athens beer festival for that. I recommend getting to the Decatur one early. I have been shut-out twice now!

I left for a few weeks and didn't even recognize the main page anymore. The problem is, the people pissing and moaning in the Reggie link will tell 3 friends, and they'll tell 3 friends, and so on and so on. Then we'll have people signing up just to flame. I take comfort in thinking that these newbies are just doing a hit and run. I'm guessing that tomorrow night will be the defining moment of whether they are here to stay. I bet some people get their drink on and start spouting off.

Another article on Euro2004. While flying back from Euro 2004, I caught the movie "Shattered Glass" on Air France about TNR fabricator Stephen Glass. I was surprised to see that the Executive Producer was Tom Cruise. Interesting flick, I recommend it. And I gotta get some pictures out from Lisbon & Porto. I walked into a shitstorm at work when I came back this week. We are one of the investment firms that need to settle with Spitzer and the SEC, so I'll get them out as soon as I can categorize them. I wouldn't want to post all my boring pictures.

Computer was down the last two days and then I got caught up in all the drinking since Portugal has advanced to the finals. DEFINITELY makes this trip better. We watched the Portugal-Holland game in the apartment of an Italian national who lives right in city square. Right after the game, thousands upon thousands of people walked and drove to the center of town and partied. Craziest thing I have ever witnessed. Everyone seems to be great sports as well. The holland fans that I saw wished everyone good luck. We finally called it quits around 4am local time. I have a few people waiting to log on so I have to run, but any suggestions to how I can post pictures? It will have to wait until I am in the States, but I am open. And congrats Worldcup, that job sounds like a dream.

We went to the Denmark~Czech game on Sunday. The atmosphere was incredible. My companions befriended a Denmark girl 2 years ago while travelling, so we were instantly converted to root for the Danes. She told us everything we needed to know about the team. And just an aside, they might be the most beautiful women walking this planet. Since Portugal is still in the tourney, the locals are ribbing us about England (they all think we are English). Whenever someone in an England jersey walks by, the chanting for them to go home is deafening. When we tell them we are from the US they seem very surprised that we are here. It is a very surreal experience drinking Carlsberg and clinking our beer mugs together with the fans. Complete strangers walk up to us and kick the ball around with us and nexthing we know, we are shaking hands and laughing. I definitely underestimated how passionate football fans are in Europe. We will be watching Portugal~Holland in the city square of Lisbon tomorrow, and we have tickets to Thursday´s match. I realize I am rambling here, but just wanted to share the experience and post something.

Funny, I was going to say "The Open" instead of referring to it as just the British, but didn't want to confuse anyone stateside.

JJ, who do you think will take the British this year? And what's your opinion on that small group of Americans that either don't travel to play, or don't even bother to try and qualify?

So much for Duval. He started off with a birdie, then followed that up with a string of bogeys and doubles. His scorecard looks exactly like mine now and I'm a 14. He's +8 through 14.

what happened? One theory is that he fell apart after he and his long time girlfriend split up. From what I understand, I think she travelled with him all the time. In typical rebound fashion, he got married this spring to someone he met last summer. He did have some nagging shoulder injuries in 2002 as well. He might be the classic case of a guy winning a major (2001 British Open) and then playing abroad for huge appearance fees, changing his equipment (all Nike now) and just losing the drive to play. I hope he gets it back, because when he got his first win back in 1997 after having something like 8 runner-up finishes, he exploded and just started contending in everything.

For Euro2004? My friends and I are crossing the Atlantic and we had to enter a pool over a year ago. I think each country was designated a certain amount, so it was easier here in the USA. We got tickets to 2 quarterfinal matches and one semifinal, spread amongst Porto and Lisbon. Our plan is simple, as nations lose and fans go home, tickets will be sold on the streets.

Damn it, I saw the April results and thought I moved up in the standings. I am curious to know how many of the teams I am beating (or losing to) are still coaching their teams. T Trendel has zero transfers all season, so that probably answers that question. Even so, I am barely holding on to the coveted 29 slot.

What if you haven't got any statistics education whatsoever and are called upon to regular produce standard deviation curves? I hate my job. Do what I did, force management to purchase statistical software. The folks at Zephyr (Investment Performance Software) make me look like a genius, and they have charts with bright colors too. I can even pick which colors I want to use. And whenever anyone asks me to explain, I always say the same thing, "Didn't you get the chart?"

My girlfriends grandparents did this. I do not consider either of them athletes, so I also will say no and no. Although, I got some cool hunting china out of the deal. They are now in the stage of giving away their life's possessions and then accusing you of stealing them weeks later. Real athletes do not act like that.

Damn. I always forget this room exists! Allow me to clarify. I normally use the term "pc" hand in hand with Liberal. That's why my comment made zero sense in trying to connect the two. So I'm glad you took me to task on that because I reread it now, and I sound exactly like the posts that turn me off. Also on that thread, it was my impression we were arguing the dunking skills of Candace Parker and whether or not she was worthy of being the winner. Instead, it seemed subsequent posts trashed the contest as having no validity, so I felt it was a convenient way to skirt talking about gender. The point I was trying to illustrate was how you couldn't bring yourself to criticize her skills, but could easily slam US Marines. But after taking a step back, I think articles like this make sense. For some reason, hearing Katie Couric gush about it on national TV set me off that morning because I feel they exploit it. It's as if they only read the headline the next day and aren't informed on the whole situation. But then again, since when is that the responsibility of morning television? And the larger issue is why am I watching so much of it?

Carolina Panthers at Falcons back in December. Vick's homecoming party. It was the first time in a long time that I ever thought of Atlanta as a pro sports town. Atlanta won 20-14 in OT. If Vick can stay healthy, then the Falcons can go a long way. Every time he touched the ball, the fans stood up. Now I heard the commentators on ESPN went over the top in praising him, but what I saw was pretty amazing. A rather quiet night of passing (16-33, 179yds) but his rushing stats of 14 carries for 141yds made him a true double threat.

My buddy (not a spofi member or with any knowledge that I am) recently met a girl through myspace (we are both predators) and she sent him a link with pics, which he forwarded to me on the tieguy.org url. I thought, "I know this guy" but couldn't place him. Now it all makes sense. Sit and Deadspin!!! And just for the record, I am like member 756 and always felt like a late arrival. Now I feel like I was on the Mayflower. Thanks for a great job founders. It may get ugly sometimes, but I still check back often for links even though my commenting has gone WAY down due to my newfound celebrity status. Hint: American Idol
