Wise Words: "It was obvious Katie was not very good, She was awful. You know what guys do? They respect your ability. You can be 90 years old, but if you can go out and play, they'll respect you. Katie was not only a girl, she was terrible. OK? There's no other way to say it." Colorado football coach Gary Barnett responding to former kicker Katie Hnida's charge that she was raped in an interview with Rick Reilly. Colorado is in a world of hurt, several women suing about being raped, entertaining recruits with strippers and escorts. Page 2 wonders who's to blame for this mess.

"You faggot! Yeah, you heard me. You faggot!": I guess the president of an NFL team didn't have the presence of mind to shut his mouth. Matt Millen (of devout coward fame) had a verbal altercation with former Lion Johnnie Morton. Today he made himself unavailable for comment, leaving reporters to ask players the difficult questions.

Sapp blasts NFL 'slave system' :
"And so now there's a rule against me. Thanks. I knew (the league) was gonna do what they did because they've been notoriously against Sapp. Like I said before, it's a slave system. Make no mistake about it, slave master say you can't do it, don't do it. They'll make an example out of you."

Just give me the damn ball!: So I can sign it. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Terrell Owens catches a touchdown pass, reaches into his sock, and pulls out a Sharpie and signs the ball. Page 2 wonders what else is in there.

Female sports reporter suspended for 'frolicking' with team in the locker room.: [More here (1, 2)]
When the Minnesota Twins clinched the ALC Championship, reporter Anne Hutchinson was caught on camera spraying players with champagne, and being chased around the locker room "squealing with delight". Of course the local media is having a field day with this.

It's all about the Benjamins.: Jay Glazer reviews the contracts of a few major football players. The reality? Players will never see most of the money. Most of the large numbers ($29 million for 5 years for Trent Green) are structured so that players must renegotiate their contracts before the large balloon payments toward the end of the contract come due. Agents in fact try to get these bogus agreements, the reason? It makes the agent look good, and getting new clients easier.
Baseball players union votes to set strike date to August 30: Chicago Cubs Sammy Sosa "... We have to do what we've got to do. I think that's the only way we can get something done.''
