I know that when I die I would want my kids to take care of their duties to whatever teams they are on, be it sports or business. Roger may not mention the words "we" or "team" tonight in any of those 800 interviews, but I don't think that anyone on the Astros will mind if he doesn't. It's his night to honor the woman that helped him get to where he is, and it's his night when it comes to his teammates doing what teammates do - support each other. Maybe he'll even have an angel in the outfield to help him get a W. Hooray for him, and condolences to the whole Clemens family. Do your Mom proud Roger!

Sorry I didn't post sooner, but on Sundays the kids take over my computer. Here is a link to a charity article: I am involved with the group that I wrote about in that article, but I am currently working on moer articles about other organizations. This link is a hotel write-up that I did: I can e-mail you other works of mine if you are interested.

Thanks sands! The only current links to works that I have written are about charities, travel and crafts. If you think that you might want to read about some of that stuff, let me know and I'll send you the links. I am currently co-authoring a book with a former professional baseball player who was my favorite when I was 8 years old. It has really been a lot of fun! DH is getting tired of the baseball stories though, so I had to find another outlet. Glad I stumbled across Sports Filter! BTW - It's nice to 'meet' you!

I lock the other kids in the closet! Not really, so don't call CPS! Since I write about baseball, it is part of my job to watch the games! I have a tv in almost every room, so I just plan my day around the game schedule, making sure that I will be in a room with a tv when it is game time! I also have a tv on the back porch, so I am able to watch games out there while I am doing yard work. Today I weeded my back flowerbeds while I watched the Yankees! When you really love something, you find the time for it. It's too bad for my kids that I love baseball more than them! Just joking!

Good Story! Thanks! As a mom of 9 kids (yes, my very own team!) I can feel his pain! At least I have one kid that lives for baseball, and the baby is on her way! Gotta run, my son is yelling at me to come and watch the game! :-)

At least he's trying to do something for the community. He's teaching all of those kids the importance of the BLING at an early age so they can ask for ridiculously high paychecks and crazy signing bonuses! What's the name of his team? The Rowizzle Raidizzles?

Maybe if they started using the name "White Stockings" instead of SOX, they could draw off of some of the sympathy for the Cubs (who actually used to be the White Stockings a century or so ago). Better yet, change the name to White Stockings and get the Silver Bullets to play on the team! A bunch of women playing Pro ball in the Windy City would definetely grab more media attention than their rivals!

I'm sorry if you took my post the wrong way dejoy, I realize that baseball is a continous circle of people that all support each other - from the players, to the t-shirt giys, to the hotdog companies, to the Nacho Chip guys. Do I think that the guy that has the glove deserves a riduculous amount of money for it? NO! I honestly don't understand people that want to sell any kind of baseball memoribilia. I keep everything that I get. I guess I'm just a sentimental type person. If I caught a homerun ball that meant something to someone, I would have the integrity to give it to the player. I would like to think that most fans would. Every once in a while we run into these morons that are looking to make a quick buck off of someone else. We live in a society that is spoiled rotten, and a large number of people somehow think that the world owes them something. I was recently at a Mets game when a young woman was hit in the face with a foul ball, which then bounced off her nose and into the hands of a boy that was 8 years old. As the girl was being taken to get first aid, the crowd started yelling at the boy to give her the ball. The small boy stood up, opened his tiny fingers, and handed the ball to the young woman. Integrity! That's what it's about! An 8 year-old boy also looks up to the players on the field though, and it was bad judgement to throw a glove into the stands. And what is he teaching the kids by demanding his glove back? I understand everyone's opinions on this topic, but I do think that Livan should teach children good character traits by taking responsibilty for his actions and apologizing. Integrity is infectious! BTW- That little boy at the Mets game wound up receiving an autographed ball a few days after the game thanks to an adult that was impressed with his actions!

Let's not forget why those players make the millions that they do! Without the fans, do you think that they would be making anything close to that? The fans do deserve things in return sometimes! A baseball clubhouse is like Vegas... what happens there stays there. Consider the stands a clubhouse for the fans... what gets thrown there stays there! McGwire didn't deserve his balls back, baseballs that is, and Hernandez doesn't deserve his glove back. Without the fans they would be nobodies!

Done.
as a fellow NYer, I have to agree with goddam about the different types of boos that come from the fans. it's a NY thing. if you're not from there, you wouldn't understand. not trying to sound snobbish, just trying to explain. well put gd!
