Leave it to Specter to try and pull something like this. Hey Arlen, the NFL is a non gov corporation, they do not have to explain ANYTHING to you. How did we get to this point in the United States where the U.S. Senate wants the NFL to explain why they did an internal action? Did he ever think that maybe they DID destroy the tapes for the betterment of the game?

She had every right to say what she said, after all this is still the United States, the last I checked anyway. That's not to say that her comments weren't in bad taste, because they were. We have freedom of religion in this country and on the flip side we have freedom from religion. It's a twisted web that doesn't make a lot of sense. Her being suspended for a week did not help or hurt anything. Funny how a country that was founded on religious freedom has so many people that are so dead set against it.

I see. You said something that didn't make any sense, I pointed that out, and so you've got to make it personal This is one of a few times on different boards you've said something about things getting personal. Tell me, do u take everything that way. If so....why? That sounds like a problem that you need 2 work out. Do you have a complex about something? This is a sports blog where different people have different opinions that from time to time will not be the same as yours. If you take things from a sports blog personal than that's your problem. I never make it personal, if you take it that way than so be it. You said something that didn't make any sense, I pointed that out Is that what you did? O.K. you're right, whatever. You wanted to talk about correlations between Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Jim Brown, which had nothing to do with bperk's point. I was commenting on the comment before mine, get a grip. Look I'm done with this discussion with you. Obviously you have aproblem when people don't agree with you and that's fine, I understand. You'll get no further comments from me on this subject. Although I'm quite positive that I'll hear from you again the next time I say something that you don't like. LOL Whatever.

Can you please provide a link to Jackson making a big deal about this? I can't find what you are referring to. Actually, I heard it on ESPN Radio this morning.

So, every useless bastard has a "correlation" with every other useless bastard? That's an interesting redefinition of "correlation". useless came in to play right there. Well B10 there you go again, playing the "here's LBB picking on poor persecuted me because she's a big old meanie" card again without bothering to consider whether you just said something that didn't make a whole lot of sense. Did you just say "she's a big old meanie"? Well gosh darnet, quit being a meanie. What I said did make sense but obviously you didn't read my 2nd post very closely. You blew right past bperk's point about the fpp and started a tirade about who's a real civil right's leader and who isn't...thereby kind of validating the point. really? So we can read the articles but can't expand on them? I see. It wasn't on CNN and ESPN that Tiger wanted it dropped and Sharpton, Jackson and Brown were the ones that made a big deal about it. Infact, I believe it was Brown that called Tiger an explitive. I was simply adding to the discussion, I didn't realize that we could ONLY comment on what was in the article. You're unbelievable in some of the things you spout. You have the right to spout them but they are odd sometimes.
posted by B10 at 03:55 PM on January 25, 2008
Well LBB there you go again, someone else can't have an opinion w/o u chiming in telling them how wrong they are. I'm not saying there useless at all. I'm saying that they catch more headlines than they do good at this point in their "careers". They are a far cry from what Kennedy, King, Johnson, parks and all the other civil rights leaders from the 60's did. They all didn't do what they did for headlines or for publicity. They did what they did for the betterment of mankind and didn't care about the piddly BS that the so called "civil rights leaders" of today do. They're more worried about political correctness than they are people. But I'm quite positive you'll beg to differ and half of the blog will say shame on me for disagreeing with you.
posted by B10 at 02:03 PM on January 25, 2008
Talk about Brown making something out of nothing! Woods asked ESPN to do down play the comment because they are friends. Of course that didn't happen because down playing it wouldn't be news worthy. Where are Sharpton and Jackson mentioned at all in the article? Do they have to be? Obviously there is a corilation with Sharpton/Jackson and the idiocy of this story. Both men had a place and a purpose at one time, now they are shells of their former selves getting every bit of publicity they can.

Probably circumstances where the community is less civil than here. Sports blogs and communities can get pretty... wild sometimes. Some of those sports communities combine the unyielding fervor of political junkies with the intelligence of Youtube commentary. That's sports for ya- the Everyman's religion. :) I don't know that people on a sports blog would ever make it so I didn' t let it be known who my team was. It was relentless after the Appalation State win over Mi but I'll de damned if I'm not going to say that I'm a Mi fan. Seriously, sports blogs are individual thoughts of many people coming together on one forum to express their particular opinion. I don't know them personally and even if I did there is NOTHING that anybody could say to make me not admit that i'm a fan of this team or that team. So when this comment was made "but this is the only one where I don't hide the fact I'm a Pats fan"I was suprised I guess. Just seems pretty shallow not to admit rooting for a team because everybody else hates them or is putting them down.

I wasn't trying to make it personal, I was just commenting on other posts I've seen from lbb on other Sports Filter blogs to other people. Nothing to get uptight about. I just felt strongly about the subject. I wasn't trying to make it personal with cjets either, I was just trying to get my point through to him. Obviously we didn't agree so you move on. By the way cjets, does the word 'Anus" offend you that much?
posted by B10 at 05:36 PM on January 17, 2008
But I find it ironic that someone who compares Pittsburgh to an anus (in their public profile, no less, not even a one-off post) should be scolding others about classless behavior. Maybe, but having an opinion about a city and booeing a 14 year old is quiet a bit different isn't it? I was "scolding" the Colts fans, I don't remember you personally being a target but if you were there and did it than....yes, I was. This whole conversation doesn't matter because there is a fundamental difference in opinions here. I guess I'll agree to disagree but I still think it was wrong.
posted by B10 at 05:35 PM on January 17, 2008
Is that your idea of class? r u serious? I'm on a sports blog, not a childrens website. Besides that is so NOT even close to what we're talking about. Expressing your opinion in a sports blog and booeing a 14 yr old girl on the field that accomplished something other kids tried and couldn't do is a bit different, don't yea think? You know, like night and day! That is probably the weakest argument on this blog so far. I guess kids in Pittsburgh wouldn't be offended by that at all. Probably, but i'm NOT talking to kids in Pittsburgh directly either am I? I'm not booeing them on the field for winning a sports contest am I? Nor would I. My feelings for Pittsburgh would not be taken out on a 14 yr old girl for wearing the wrong jersey. WOW, you're most definantly in left field on this one. Nice try though, applaud the effort.

Seriously, isn't it possible that someone could have a different view than you about what the "responsibility" of a sports fan is? And that that view, although different than yours, could perhaps not be completely and totally still-not-getting-it wrong? Guess not. Your one to talk lbb. LOL

That just doesn't sound like open hostility to me. It sounds like a typical rivalry Again, your missing the point. It didn't matter if she expected it or not. It didn't matter if it bothered her. What mattered was the fans who were there didn't know any of that and still booed her. It was 100% tasteless and 0% tactful. It showed zero class.
posted by B10 at 04:08 PM on January 17, 2008
If you consider it to be a big deal. I don't It's not about being a big deal. It's about showing responsability as a sports fan. Obviously you don't get it and that's fine but you're missing the point I think.

And from what I've seen and heard about the nightmarish parents and coaches in the pee-wee leagues across the country, booing from some fans of your team's rival would seem to be a very minor incident. That doesn't make it right or excuse what happenned Sunday.
posted by B10 at 03:25 PM on January 17, 2008
What, do we think that such a response would emotionally cripple her in some permanent way? Clearly not - her responses indicate as such. Who - in their right mind - is surprised by any of this? You guys are up in arms about this more than the alledged victim. A 14-year old girl is a child in many respects - but if she didn't know what she was in for, I would be extraordinarily surprised. I don't think anybody thought she would be emotionally crippled by the experience. I think the point is the total and utter lack of class on the part of Colts fans. The point she knew or didn't know what she was in for is irrellivant. She is 14 after all. Actually, she probably got a good luagh out of it and had a little bit of fun with it. Still though, that's not the point. We are always quick to criticize players, coaches and owners for being "unsportsmanlike" or "bad sports" or maybe acting out at their press conference. So as fans we have no responsiblity? We can crtitcize everyone else but when it comes to our own actions, well that's okay? No, the fans, (who booed that girl), were wrong and that's that. It was classless and tasteless. This isn't to say that Colts fans are the only ones who would do that but it happenned at their house.

Bill Bell deserves the honor and he got it! the loss of a first-round pick in the upcoming draft By the way, they still get a top five draft pick from a deal that they had with San Fran last season. Ooops, gues the NFL should have done their homework on that one.

I think what the NHL did do right was putting Crosby in that game. If it wasn't for him a lot of pepople wouldn't have thought twice about watching that game. No, I am definately NOT a Pens fan either. It's just the bowl games used to all take place (and conclude) on January 1, not be dragged out to Jan. 2, Jan. 3, and Jan. 7. It's been a long, long time since the bowl games were done on Jan 1st. At least 6 - 7 seasons.
