Electric skates to hit the hockey rink!: Therma Blade uses battery-powered electricity to heat skate blades and lessen the friction between blade and ice surface. While it sounds slightly quirky, they have Wayne Gretzky on board as an endorser.

The layer of water between a skate blade and the ice is, and always has been, what makes the skate glide, of course. I'm just not sure I would buy the fact that the small increase in water volume created by a heated blade would increase performance, as this product suggests. But then again, I didn't spend 5 million researching that position. In the interest of self-preservation, I guess I'll just go along with whatever NHLPA Council (!!) Stu Grimson says!

Lame ass idea, whatever happened to the Canadian game of ice hockey? Before they Americanized the game....

Looks from the link like a Canadian company made this product and that it's first release is in Canada. Perhaps you were joking Marko?

If you wear these and stand in the same place too long, do you leave divots or melt through the ice? Brings new meaning to "Keep your feet moving."

Stupid Canadians and their Americanized hockey...next thing you know they're gonna let the Lightning, Hurricanes and Ducks win the cup.
