A night to remember: On the anniversary of September 11, it wasn't just another Jays Yankees game."C'mon boys, there's been worse September 11's than this" and they said "Yes mom, that's when we lost daddy."

Maybe I read it too fast, but I thought that article was pretty poorly written. The quotes were particularly odd. I thought MLB's schedule yesterday was weird. Not the fact that the Yankees were on the road -- the Mets were home, and both teams are never in NY at the same time except when they're playing each other. I thought it was a little odd that the Yankees weren't even in the States, and weirder yet that the Nationals weren't home. It was a nice tribute the Jays had, and certainly the 9/11 attack reached far beyond the cities of New York and Washington. I do think, though, that it would be a nice gesture by MLB if the schedule always had the Yankees home on 9/11 and the Mets playing at Washington. That should be pretty easy to do, especially since the Mets and Nats are in the same division and play each other lots. It's a minor point on my part -- just one more glitch in a terrifically flawed MLB schedule this year.

I agree - strange that they would be in Toronto on such a day. But handled with class - not to mention handing a butt whooping to the Jays.

it would be a nice gesture Crafty, but MLB can't even make it so the Jays play at home on Canada Day every year so i think your suggestion may be a little too complicated for them.

I agree with Crafty- terribly written article. Where was the editor on this one?

"C'mon boys, there's been worse September 11's than this" and they said "Yes mom, that's when we lost daddy." OH. MY. GOD! The second comment was made by 2 boys, 8 and 5 years old respectively, who lost their father in the 9/11 attacks. Just how eloquent did you expect them to be? Their mother was just trying to give them a little perspective on the ride in from Pearson International Airport, that it really wasn't that big a deal that they were late for the game and unable to throw out the first pitch. What should she have said?
