James Oyebola's life support to be switched off. : On Monday, after asking 3 men to stop smoking, ex-British Heavyweight champion James Oyebola was shot. In the face. Today, after doctor's pronounced him brain dead, his life support is to be switched off.
This really is turning into one of the most depressing sports weeks ever. What a loss. RIP Oyebola.

It's stories such as the last three that make the Mike Vick and Pacman stories so much more frustrating. Here we have a young girl killed by a softball, a great college coach dying way too young, and a boxer shot and killed by two idiots because he asked them to not smoke. This has been a very depressing few weeks for sports news and discussions. I am to the point where I don't want to read sports, listen to talk radio or tv. Godspeed to the little girl, the coach and the boxer. '

The biggest lesson I take from this incident is that no matter how big and bad ass you may be, nowadays confronting somebody, with so many punks packing, can end badly. I avoid expressing anger on the roads or in public places due to the fact in the old days the worst thing that happened was a fist fight, something I am sure a six nine ex-heavyweight champ probably wasn't too worried about. Of course a 5 foot 2 punk with a gun who is feeling threatened or embarrassed, or has something to proove trumps skill and athleticism. It should have been managements job to call the police and enforce the no smoking law.

You manage to blame the victim in damn near every death thread, Atheist. What's up with that?

I don't think he's blaming the victim here. I feel the same way, that some of the rudeness in day to day life comes from the fact no one gets an ass-kicking anymore because you don't know who has a gun.

Amen, yerfatma! "no one get an ass-kicking anymore because you don't know who has a gun." There are some people who "should be smacked in the head repeatedly with a 9 iron." And the stupidity just seems to be getting worse!

Too many sick and twisted people in the world who want their 15 minutes of fame and do harm to people that are caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Who knows if it's jealousy or anger at celebrities who have more than them, but it's not right. And I agree with the other post that some of these people who use weapons as a way to make up for their shortcomings. These are weak and cowardly people who are the cancer in our society. Nowadays, you can't even look at someone without fear of a fight or confrontation taking place. Alot of people are on the edge and angry at the world.

It's a good thing smoking in public places and carrying handguns are illegal in jolly old England, isn't it?

Very sad. Though it could have done without "... was shot. In the face." Needless sensationalising. This has been a crappy few weeks really. Even fans of the "fake" sport of pro-wrestling like myself have had the Benoit horror, and a legendary name from ECW passing away. F1 has had this stupid spy scandal. Just a horrendous time all round really. "You manage to blame the victim in damn near every death thread, Atheist. What's up with that?" I don't think he's blaming the victim at all. He's pointing out how fucked society is today more than anything. Atheist is absolutely correct. If you confront someone these days, they're just as likely to pull a knife or a gun. There was a confrontation outside my apartment building two years ago. Ended with one of the parties being stabbed four times and shot.
