Ultimate Fantasy Sport: Own Your Own Golfer: The Ultimate Game, a new golf tournament in Las Vegas for players who don't regularly compete on the PGA, Nationwide or Champions tours, has a $2 million prize and a $50,000 entry fee. That combination is bringing together "poor golfers who wanted to be rich and rich businessmen who wanted to be golfers."
Fascinating. I demand updates.

I second squealy's demand for updates, this is a great story. The next Zach Johnson, if he gets a lot of lucky breaks? And by a lot, I mean ship by the planeload. But just for kicks, what would the media do if this guy won the Masters 10 years from now...

Only if you promise to win.

Actually, JJ, I had that very thought. I couldn't come up with $50K (well, I could -- but if you don't win, we both might lose our kneecaps), but I'd front $1K, and I bet an early enough start would mean finding 49 other guys in the same boat. You could wear a t-shirt with all of our names on it!

Actually, JJ, I had that very thought. Me too.

SpoFi sponsorship, that would be awesome.

There'd be the small matters of me giving up my amateur status for a second (and final) time and... what was that other thing?... oh yeah, not being shit at golf anymore. Otherwise? Perfect! It might be an idea though, if you could raise the cash as a syndicate, to do some research and find a decent player you think might be on the verge of the big time. Hell, just finding someone good enough to get through a couple of rounds would be enough to double the money it would seem.

Pretty damned amazing stuff, and I'm shocked this hadn't been done before. And, with this link, I'll be pulling for Streelman, who seems worthy of a break.
