The world through the eyes of a sideline reporter: Surprisingly entertaining interview with Elliotte Friedman.

Via Mirtle. And don't miss the peripherally-related link to the failed Ricky Williams interview.

The Friedman interview was a nice diversion, but the Ricky Williams interview was hilarious. Of course, that might just be the Paxil talking.

Quick story - Raptors game about 6 years ago. At this time Friedman worked for "The Score", a station which basically is a non-stop sportscentre (now it shows live events and wrestling, but then - just scores). Anyway - I see him walking across the court 10 minutes before the tipoff and shout "Friedman, you suck". Not a great story, but the look on his face was classic. It was puzzlement. Freidman clearly doesn't think he sucks and wonders why I did.

Side note: "The Score" cultivates, by far, the best talking heads in sports broadcast. It's like the minor leagues of Canadian sports broadcasting, as Friedman is one of a few "The Scores" personalities that has moved up to the "big leagues" (CBC, TSN, SportsNet). Everyone that works there seems to be trying harder and having more fun than on the other stations. I find myself turning to that station at 11pm to get all the highlights/stats more often than the other ones.

Grum, you're right on. The staff at The Score seems to get it a lot more than TSN and RogersSportsNet. They laugh and seem to understand that sports is a diversion, and should be taken lightly. Their ticker is indispensible for someone working nights and who just wants to grab some scores real quick.

The Ricky Williams interview....A glaring advertisement to "Just Say No".
